Ok now, my patience is wearing very thin and frankly I'm pretty annoyed. Please have a look three posts up to see why.

Endless lists make for very boring reading. If you want to post your top five, ten fifteen, fifty or even hundred artists then fine but please pick at least one of them and tell us very briefly why you like them. If you are unsure as to what I mean by this then please again look up the page towards Esrb, Kipsy and Accio xbox's posts.

Thank you, Shane

Vincent
I actually like quite a few bands/artists.
My favorite Artist is Brad Paisley, I have all of his CD's and I love every one of his songs. His new album is coming out August 16th, so I can't wait. Oh, and for the record, he is a country singer, in case you haven't heard of him. He has different songs such as "Celebrity", "Mud on the Tires", "Whiskey Lullaby", "I'm Gonna Miss Her", and "He didn't have to be". He is very funny, and he shows that in his videos, and he is an excellent guittarist and singer/songwriter. He has written all of his songs singlehandenly or co-write, except 1 I believe. But the interesting thing is that most of his hit songs that I have mentioned he wrote all by himself, for example I know Celebrity is one.
My favorite band is Queen, and I know people have heard of them, or at least their songs. They have songs such as "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions", "Another One Bites The Dust", "Bohemian Rhapsody", and "I Want To Break Free". I think that they were/are an excellent band, and I said were because in 1992 or 1991 the lead singer, Freddy Mercury died.
Now that I have said the main descriptions, I'll list some other artists I like, and give smaller descriptions.

~Toby Keith-I think he took a stand to write some amazing patriotic songs, and I respect him for that.
~Keith Urban-He's an Aussie, and he sings country songs! Yeah, he is VERY talented, he played the guitat amazingly, and he plays other instruments.
~Alan Jackson-A very talented singer/songwriter/guitarist.
~Lonestar-I used to not like them at all, but now I do. I still feel all emotional when "I'm Already There" plays on the radio. A Great Group.
~Daryl Worley-When I first heard him by his newest stuff, I thought he was ok, but now when I have found his other songs such as "Have You Forgotten?", I love his stuff.
~Kenny Chesney-He has come out with perhaps the best Feel-Good Song ever, "How Forever Feels", and "I Go Back" will always be a classic for me.
~Alabama-A classic group, nothing more to say.
~George Strait-A classic star, he still is creating great music today.
~Gary Allen-I recently started listening to his stuff, and I like it a lot. "Right Where I need to be" is fantastic, as is "Nothing on but the Radio".
~Gretchen Wilson-The "Redneck Women" has annoyed me several times, but I still like her music.
~Uncle Kracker-I like only two of his songs, "Drift Away", which is a remade song, and "Follow Me", a great Feel-Good Song.
~Big and Rich-A great Duo. I love all their songs, especially "Big Time".
~Johnny Cash-A legend, to put it simply. I still love "Man in Black" and "I've Been Everywhere".
~Lynard Skynard-A legendary Group.
~The Beatles-Again, a legendary group. My dad loves them, so that's how I got into them.
~The Charlies Daniels Band-Devil went down to Georgia is awesome.
~Tim McGraw- You have no idea how much I don't like him as a person, since he doesn't play guitar or write his own songs, he just sings, but as much as I hate it, I still like some of his music.
~Andy Griggs-He's great. "She thinks she need me" is fantastic.
~Sara Evans-She's a great singer, I like all of her music as well. My mom is nearly obsessed with her.
~Blake Shelton-He's a funny guy, and very talented. "Goobye Time" is good, as is "Some Beach".
~Dierks Bently- He's very good. He makes the funniest music videos, and he is talented.

Well, I think that's just about it, but if I think of any more, I'll just edit them in.
Balderdash!
QUOTE (tashluvsdan @ Aug 31 2004, 03:15 AM)
I like SOME hip-hop... but (please don't kill me hip-hop LOVERS) -- most of their songs are about girls, money, cars, bling, etc... I said SOME, not ALL. Don't say it's a general stereotype because just look at the proof in front of you.. that's just my opinion.. no offense to anyone!  dry.gif

It's only mainstream Hip-hop that promotes those stereotypes in the main, nowadays. Indie Hip-hop is generally far more creative. If it was just the artists on MTV and stuff, Eminem, or 50 Cent, or whatever, I'd agree with you. I don't like that garbage either. But I'm a big Indie Hip-hop fan. Plus in the 'Golden Age' of rap, with guys like Run DMC, Eric B. & Rakim, BDP, Public enemy, Slick Rick, and others ... Hip-hop was more conscious, and creative. Nowadays it's been ruined in the most part by the corporations that distribute the big rap stars; it's become boring and unimaginitive - except, as I said, on the smaller labels where, a quite major resistance effort can be heard, but goes unnoticed by the masses.

Generally, I like a wide variety of music, I like a lot of classic rock: I like The Beatles; I'm a big Pink Floyd man; I like Led Zeppelin; and I like some 80s punk and stuff. I like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Mars Volta, Muse, Radiohead. I've never been really big on metal, though - Black Sabbath, and all that other rubbish; it's never interested me. I also like Hip-hop, Soul, Reggae, and some Jazz. I'm a Bob Marley man, definitely. I like pretty much everything, to be honest with you. Only musical genres I really don't care for are Country, and, as I said, Metal. But really, I would like to think, I'm pretty open-minded.
Feeder
I am really into classic rock and alternative. Sca is not bad either, but I can not stand, Heavy Metal like metallica and linkin park and all that junk. I'm not to into rap or pop either. Pop is just a bunch of superdivas lip-syncing, as long as you have a decent voice you can do it.

Jimmy Page is one of the all-time greatest guitarists, I can't get enough of his solo in Stairway to Heavan. For all of you who have not heard the song, you must listen to it. I also really like Guns 'n Roses as well as Rush.
secretkeeper
I like all music except country, its just not my cup of tea. I like the the great Frank Sanatra and Dean Martin, now thats Old School. I like some of the Beatles, but i wouldn't want to live in a yellow submarine. laugh.gif I can't believe no one has put down Journey. Those of you who were old enough to like music in the 80's should like them. I do have All-American Rejects in my CD player so there my favorite band right now. I am a big fan of Ingram Hill which I'm sure none of you have heard before. If you give me a cd or a record I'd probly like at least one song on it.
chocobeer
Gosh, anyone heard these new songs? they rock my socks - TOTALLY!!

We Belong Together
Dont Phunk With My Heart
Lonely No More

Black Eyed Peas are coming to an end and i dont think i'm really gonna be missing them...but still, i did like their songs (some of them)...

guste
i like 2pac gospel.... what do you think about this song?

MOD EDIT: Hi guste! Please try to refrain from one-liners; they are not permitted. Also minor netspeak was spotted in your post('u'...). Take a quick swing by the rules please! Thanks. smile.gif

Okay, people, since NO ONE ELSE is posting anything but mainstream Rap, pop, or rock, I'll have to 'disrespect society' by breaking from the mold...

1) From First To Last - Led by 17 year old Vocalist Sonny Moore, From First To Last (or FFTL) have been igniting Epitaph records for about 2-3 years, and with their jarring album, Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Bodycount, FFTL's musical range is seen to be limitles, tfrom the quirky indusdrial-ish, 'I liked you better before I saw you naked on the internet', to the igniting emocore/melodic hardcore 'Ride the Wings of Pestilance', the punk anthem 'Note To Self', and the
rock/rap pardoy that is cleverly left utitlesd (and 'hidden') , From First To Last leaves no genre un-touched (well, maybe country) and show that they will be a force to reckon with.

SAMPLE LYRIC:
QUOTE
I'll hide, you in my walls, your body will never be found, I'll wear your skin as a, suit, pretend to be you, your friends will like you more than they used to!!!

From Ride the Wings of Pestilence

2) Aiden - New to Victory Records, Aiden's first album, Our Gang's Dark Oath (released on DeaD Teenager Records), boasted many positive reviews (Due to two of its members still being in their junior year of high school during the album's release) and the two songs at purevolume.com from their upcoming album, Nightmare Anatomy. The Sample Lyric below is from a song set to be released on their upcoming album.

SAMPLE LYRIC:
QUOTE
Gone with the stitching in her heart
left out a silouette that just wont
heal and dying in your arms tonight...
I know it's all just a bad dream now.
So now midnights here you're all alone they use this fear
it's all just a bad dream and I can't seem to
wake up from this

From Knife Blood Nightmare

3) Copeland okay, all you girls are going to flip out, and I know it, becuase when you listen to these guys, you'll just 'love' them. and all you guys out there, its not crap, its really good stuff, just trust me, okay?

SAMPLE LYRIC:
QUOTE
nothing can make me dry
fight all the while
fight till i think i'm free
feel rains we'll never see
beautiful secret lives
it can make you,
face all your fears
oh smile smile in the day
fear takes its place at night
oh oh be in the rain
i love your secret life
it can make you,
face all your fears

From Choose the one who loves you more
*NOTE* All you guys, this song (by copeland^^) is the PERFECT make-out song... if oyur not making out by the string section (it can make you, face all your fears..) then there's nothing more I can do for you.

4) The Snake The Cross The Crown - ah, what to say... indie-melodic ballads at their best... *sigh* good for that driving long distance mood, or just to chill...

SAMPLE LYRIC:
QUOTE
i have failed to forgive you for either, and i tried,
but i failed to forgive any aspects of either...
fairweathered friend how could these eyes,
ever forget those lustfull nights...
seeing your lips pressed against theirs,
i tried to forget i tried but failed.

From

So, yeah, hope you all like, casue I do, and they rock.

OH!!!

I forgot, you need ANYTHING BY AFI, the GREATEST band EVER!!! (Tonight, in the whispers when no ones around, nothing can stop us now... - From Wester, on the album, Art of Drowning)

Rock on!!!!

~Esrb99~
Padfoot_56
I like a lot of Classic Rock, my favourite bands Are Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Doors and Queen. I think the Who are more talented than Zeppelin but Led Zeppelin has better tunes.
Dr.Knowitall
Take a listen to these guys. Listen to the last song first (Dude, get with the program). Great stuff. It will blow your mind. And also, the most amazing thing is that these guys make absolutely no money from any of this. If you look up punk in the dictionary, you'll find these guys.

Their name is Bomb the Music Industry, remember it.

You really should see System live, I saw them in June and they were amazing! Radio/Video is one of their best songs I think!

I like Jack off Jill too. Especially Fear of Dying and Strawberry Gashes.

Some of my other favourite bands are Green Day, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Taking Back Sunday etc.

I also like some old stuff too like The Clash, T Rex, Queen... smile.gif

miia, could you please refrain from just posting up lists like that? It doesn't add to or encourage any further discussion, which is the main purpose of a forum.

This goes to everyone else okay?! You lot have been forewarned wink.gif
Big D
hey chiron_wp, your'e not the only one! Coltrane was my idol a few years ago when i still played the sax religiously. I tried to learn Giant steps once, and gave up after the first minute! I love nothing better than just chilling back and putting on some jazz.

other than that my current faves are Coldplay, just because they wrote fix you which is the best song i've heard in a long time. but i've also recently discovered Funeral for a friend and the ga gas on kerrang, and both their albums are amazing.

I could list my favourite bands over the last few years but i'll be here all day! so i'll just keep it to the likes of Pink floyd, the who, rolling stones, the goo goo dolls, razorlight....etc etc etc the list goes on for hours! I love my music! tongue.gif

I saw them live years ago before i'd even heard of them at a festival and they were brilliant!! I'm so envious of you dry.gif

Jazz is really ace chill-out music i think, i used to play Sax and had to play Binge *snarls* it was hard! I can play fly me to the moon, i love Frank! I also love Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald smile.gif

I also love David Bowie, James blunt, david bowie, Danny Elfman (he write scores, teams with Tim Burton a lot, Nightmare before christmas, edward scissorhands, charlie and the chocolate factory) I like Placebo also, as well as Barenaked ladies (because it's fun) and did i mention David Bowie. I love him so much!
keepstar1331
I just got Jason Mraz's new cd...Mr A-Z. it's great, he's so funny and it just fun music to drive around in your car and sing to! If you've never heard of him google him up. He's kinda like a goofy John Meyer (sp?)

He's not really mainstream, but im driving 7 hourse to see his concert in november!

Also warped tour was awesome this year. Even if the Early November wasn't there
secretkeeper
Finally miia, someone else listens to Frank Sanatra. I have all of his records, yes records. Some of them were very hard to get but I got them. Him and Dean are the best combination of 2 singers ever. Finally I don't feel like the only one that listens to good old music.

I did buy this small band's CD, HelloGoodbye. The are a band like Fall Out Boy, so if you like FOB then you'll like them. If not then disreguard the last 2 sentences.

Hey, you oldies...remember clubbing it, last song they'd play at the end of the night was 'Boom, Boom, Shake, Shake the Room'? tongue.gif

I can't believe that I'm being called an 'oldie'..... But yes, I remember it, sadly to say not in a good way though- the first 'beat up' that I ever saw on the train (I was grade 8 and had been at high school for 2 weeks) consisted of the guys singing this in between pounding someone. Not a good memory.

On the topic note... I've read through the entire thread twice now and I can't find a single mention for Bryan Adams. Can I seriously be the only person on here who believes that this man is a musical God???

I've been fortunate enough to see him in concert twice- the second time being in March this year and I just loooove his music! He really has a song for just about any mood that I'm in- happy, reflective, energetic, ready to party, feeling down, a new crush etc- and just listening to his stuff puts me in a good frame of mind.

So much of his music has been used in movies as well, so it's great to be able to listen to something and think of a particular movie or part of a movie.

Plus, his music isn't about the same thing over and over and over- I get so annoyed with the artists that say the same thing on 8 different tracks.
Vampire_Lestat01
LoL.. man i liek anything and everything well not really im not into classical.. that is going a lil too far. Greenday, Big and Rich, Jimmy Eat World, Edwin Mccain, ACDC, Lifehouse, the list could just keep going. I am sooo pumped though, Big and Rich is coming to the Kansas State Fair on the 12th and i got 8th row tickets!!! I am soo hyper. i jst hope that greenday or like jimmy eat world would come to wichita. I actually like greenday becuase when i come around was thevery first song i learned on the guitar and then good riddance, holiday, and boulevard of broken dreams. I like jimmy eat world because of one tree hill. inthe final episode when they went to tric or watever.. that was SOOO cool
sid_vicous
YEAH vampy one kick ass bands wOOt ! so ya and LINKIN PARK dudeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee so ya was up i love rock and country and BIG AND RICH ... montgomery gentry HELL YA TURN IT UP RITE ON! so yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol im so hyped .. woohoo!
were is theVAMPY **** ANYWAY!

MOD EDIT : Wow, you have a lot of time on your hands, don't you? Try picking up a dictionary - I think it would be a better use of your time.
Louise
Oh, Pix, you're definitely not the only Bryan Adams fan here! wink.gif You're so lucky to have seen him live! I'd love to, but I don't think he's toured over here for a while. sad.gif I seriously love 'Summer of 69' - there's no other song to really get you going in the morning like that one, is there?!

I don't often buy albums from just single artists because I tend to go through fads and I get bored easily, but Bryan Adams, Texas and Del Amitri are just about the only bands whose CD's I've bought, played to death and never gotten sick of. Real artists are so hard to come by these days, though Coldplay and Keane come pretty close. wink.gif
littlexoxlotte
I love the Killers, they have such a good band.
I also love broadway musicals, like Rent, Fame, Les Miserable, Chicago, Throughly Modern Millie, Jeykll and Hyde, and Phantom of the opera.

I also write my own music, and have written somepeices that our school marching band has played and won in competitions.
Pixymajik
Yah Dana! I'm glad to hear that you like Bryan Adams. The concert at the start of the year was FANTASTIC! He played a mixture of his Room Service Album, starting and finishing with the title song (the final song was him by himself completely accoustic!) and a whole load of hsi old stuff as well.

I love Summer of 69, but 'I'll Always Be Right There' is my favourite overall. His music just has incredible empowerment to it

Littlexoxlotte- I love musicals as well- I got to see Les Miserable for the first time in concert this year and the music is soooo powerful and beautiful.
Emma Sophia
One of my favorites is Harry and the Potters, their songs crack me up biggrin.gif You can hear some of their songs on their website, www.eskimolabs.com/hp/ I also like Ani Difranco, the Killers, and okay...this is a little weird, but I really like the sound tracks from musicals, the soundtrack for Wicked is totally awesome.
juans90

ashleigh07
juans90, please refrain from just posting lists like that as it doesn't make much of a contribution. A forums is a place for discussion and so just listing things like that is not encouraged.
Esrb99
Bryan Adams, he IS really good, but... hey, how about Genesis, or even better, Peter Gabriel?

hes just plain amazing, and you CANNOT deny it, even IF he is insane...

juans90
sorry ashleigh07 for the lists ill try not to do it again... and esbr99 petter gabriel and genesis are groups my dad hear like 24/7 and they are really really cool but it isn't my style also pink floyd... i'm into metal... ohhh and really don't know how people like groups such as green day if they have to hire a guitarrist for the concerts hmmm that's the truth of comercial music such as green day I HATE THEM
Esrb99
most mid-to high range labels record songs in peices, not all at once. each instrument does its tracks, usually drums, then bass, then guitar, then each voice is recorded, then compiling them together, wheras small labels, such as Nitro, or other indie-labels, will have each member of the band in a room, recording at the same time. the effect is near the same, except that the formre allows you to take more time and fine-tune things for the record sound, which in EVERY CASE will be diffrent than a live one, hence the need for Greenday's second guitarist, for backup riffs.

metal, well, I don't really like traditional metal, I like more of the melodic-Hardore, screamo, post-hardcore emotive-hardcore thing, more like Minor threat, Rage against the Machine, Trivium, Atreyu, and so on, and so on. but I'll also listen to rock that is driven by primarily painos and acoustical stuff, and really, just about anything in between.

Vivi
I like a lot of different musics (don't know how to say it differently) and what I listen to the most changes over time. Right now I'm really into Evanescence. I just got their CD and I just love it. I really like My Immortal but my favorite song has to be Before te Dawn, I can just keep listening to it forever tongue.gif I also like Within Temptation (anyone heard of them?). It's a dutch band and kinda like the same as Evanescence. I really like it.
I like the Black Eyed Peas too. I always become happy when I hear one of their songs, but I don't really listen to them at the moment since I'm completely into Evanescence. Also I think Gwen Stefani's music is very good. It's just really nice to listen to.
I also like Enya-type of music, but I have to be in the mood for it. When I'm all hyper and such I don't want to hear that kind of music.
Sometimes I just listen to the music from games I've played (especially Final Fantasy) and I can really enjoy that once in a while. My parents are always listening to those songs they liked when they were young and I have to admit some of them are pretty good (I can't get up with examples right now)
littlexoxlotte
ViVI- I LOVE evensance, but the only thing is that some of their songs are kind of freaky. Like in that tournacat song, she keeps saying "i want to die" it's kind of freaky, well to me atleast. But i love Haunted~
TheSpecialist
I'm not sure if I alreay mention this band but I just adore the strokes
has anyone listen to there new song that has leaked it's called " Juicebox"
a really awesome song if you haven't heard it you should.
PADFOOT'S avenger
im probably one of the few folks on this site who are really into rap but i love me some GOOD rock...something that is becoming increasingly rare these days. i normally find myself listening to jimmi hendrix if im in a rock mood. otherwise, its straight rap, jazz, r & b.

but i must admit i do like me some evanescense:)
Miseria
I absolutely love System of a Down.

As you can see, I have many varied choices of rock. Its any category, some metal (not satanic type of stuff though), rock, punk-pop, alternative rock, alternative-punk, whatever. I dont really care what type of categories I listen to. I just know I like those bands happy.gif. I will say I cannot stand emo bands or pretend-punk (bands that pretend they're cool or depressed, basically), any hip-hop, and definitely no rap.
Anglophile92

just me
Okay, since last time I wrote here there have been a few changes, but nothing big!
So this is my music:

Coldplay
The Killers
Keane
Mew (Probably my favourite band! They're danish! Terrific band!)
The Bravery
Kaiser Chiefs
Razorlight
The Strokes
Bloc Party
VAST
Gåte (great norwegian band!)
Surferosa (norwegian too!)

I also love Enya and the LOTR/Gladiator soundtrack, and irish folkmusic! I like all kinds of folkmusic really! I like all types of music; a little r'n'b/rap, pop, rock, a little metal etc.!

Guys, come on. This is getting out of hand.

Please do not post just lists as it adds nothing to the discussion, thus defeating the purpose of a forum. (I appreciate the members who have elaborated beyond the lists, thanks guys happy.gif)

Music is such a widescope topic, heaps to talk about, but I've yet to see it happen here. I will have to lock this if things don't improve here. I don't want to be a party pooper so let's not let it come to that okay?! So please - work with us y'all.

If you have nothing to add to the discussion but just a list, then please don't post at all.

Consider this a final warning.
