I really liked the special features. They really show a lot of behind the scenes footage which I thought was really cool; you get to see the real side of a lot of the actors.
I won't give too much away on the deleted scenes but they are pretty good I thought. Ofcourse, I can always do with more deleted sence and can never get enough, but i think they did a lot better job with them on this dvd then the last. There is a really good one with Harry, Karkarof, and Snape outside the you'll ball and I thought it was really good and funny.

What kind of deleted scenes? Were the interviews nice?
And I know this is

I've only watched the interviews with the cast, we're watching the rest this evening, but the interviews are great.
A huge improvement on the interviews on the Azkaban DVD. There're much longer and you do really get to see them as themselves longer than before (as least I did) as the interview is about 30 minutes long.
Very much enjoyed that!
Once my taller half gets home this evening, I'll be checking out the rest of it.

Buyer beware! I sent my hubby out to pick up a copy, he went to Wal-Mart, and came back with a full-screen edition. One disc. No extras. I'm fuming mad, and am going to try and send it back. You have to ask for the special edition two-disc set to get the bonus features and games. FYI

Just finished watching the movie and the special features. I have to say the deleted scenes were much better than the ones on the PoA DVD, but I can also say I definatly see why they weren't in the actual film. The interview with Dan, Emma, and Rupert was nice, but it would also have been nice to hear from some of the other cast members as well. Preparing for the Yule Ball was also very cute and gave you a good behind the scenes look, although alot of it is stuff that is already known (ie: Dan only had a few days to practice whereas everyone else had 3 weeks) still worth checking out though. I have to say my favorite part was the Reflections on the fourth movie...lots of behind the scenes and you get to hear from alot more of the cast and hear their thoughts on the film. As for the film itself, I saw it twice in theatres and now watched it again on DVD...I still feel that there are some vital parts of the book that were left out (Sirius in particular) but I can also see why some things had to be left out. I also felt that the movie moves very fast, but again I can see why it had to be done this way. As far as the movie goes I enjoyed it as a movie but if your looking at it from a "book" standpoint it doesnt stick to the book as much as the others have. Still all in all a very enjoyable expierence!

Hey guys'
I just got the DVD. It has a great cover. I really wish that the special edition was in full screen though. I am not a big fan of the widescreen version; the black on the top and bottum annoys me. Does anyone know if they are going to make it in Full-screen? and if they are, when??
Thanks guy

I got the dvd on thrusday night, lucky me...anyway i thought it was great for the most part, i just wish there was more. My favorites are all the parts in the castle, deleted scenes, yule ball etc...by the way, secrethpfan...the widescreen version lets you see all that was shot, movies are on rectangular screens, for full screen quite a bit of the priginal frames have to be cut. i rather prefer wide screen, but i have a big tv so it doesn't make the movie smaller or anything...just a little info.

I agree with you all. The whole thing was great and the deleted scenes where waaaaay better than POA's.
I just have one thing to say,
What was up with Emma in the interview part of the DVD?
I mean she wouldn't show her teeth. She kept hidding her teeth. Everytime she smiled she was making her upper lip hid her teeth and I could have sworn that I was something metal on her teeth--does anyone know if she has or had braces on?
PigWithHair
Mar 7 2006, 11:13 PM
She's probably self-conscious about wearing braces, which she was when the interviews were done.
I know the feeling as I wore braces for over 2 years myself.
Gah! I have to wait until later this evening to watch the rest of it. Told my husband I wouldn't watch any more until he was home and kids were down. *sigh*
Going to be fun tonight, though. I'm really looking forward to the deleted scenes (we'll watch those after we watch the movie again) and all the featurettes. I like how there is a lot more of that kind of stuff on this 2-disc version.
Also, we really enjoyed the interviews, which we watched this morning. I was glad they had longer interviews of just the three main actors. Good stuff.

Mar 8 2006, 12:14 AM
I picked up the DVD this morning, the Special Edition one, and I've already watched all the extra stuff. Overall, way better than any of the other DVDs. The deleted scenes are cool, they've all been properly rendered, and they're just enjoyable scenes, but understandably cut from the movie. There were a coupld of scenes that I saw in promo shots though, that I thought would come up on the DVD, but didnt
!!!!!!!!!SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!
like the scnene with the trio at the waterfall, and I htink there was a bit with Hermione and Ron in the Great Hall when Harry and Ron were still in an argument that sisn't show up on the DVD
END OF SPOILER
As always, could do with more, but the interviews and behind the scenes are wicked. You get to hear a lot more from other cast members, like James and Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch....You see a lot of what the actors are like in real life, and it's just really awesome. I was smiling the whole way through
Anyway, I'll leave it at that

I pre-ordered the DVD and got it today. I love it. All the features are really cool. The timeline has good stuff on their too. There are interviews with the cast and the champions. There are four different sections that you can choose from. The first is called "Hogwartz" which has conversations with the cast (Dan, Emma and Rupert). The making of the Yule ball (that was hilarious), reflections from different cast members about making the last four films. The second section is called "Dragon Arena" it has the making of the first task. A game that is similar to the first task (I have not played it yet), interview with the champions (cedric, fleur and viktor). The third section is called "The Lake" it has the making of the second task, a game about the second task (I have not played it either). Finally, the last section is called "The Maze" (this is my absolute favorite one) it has two games (one with the maze and one with the graveyard), the making of the third task and of course the making of voldermort. It is a really great DVD. I ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY LOVE IT.

well i cant get the DVD yet coz if it hadnt been released in UK i'm pretty sure it wont be released in Asia for some time. so i'm asking in advance, guys.
I saw lots of comments saying that they got a screwed up version of the DVD and some didnt even have the special features. so i dont freakin want that to happen to me, the dvd isnt cheap, so i have to be aware of this kind of stuff.
could you guys tell me what should i do to get the dvd with the extras, like the behind the scenes and stuff? i dont want to get the dvd with the movie only, i want to see the xtras. so i hope you guys can tell me how exactly to get this.
and, another thing, i'm quite puzzled by these fullscreen and widescreen stuff. what is it actually about? if you can, you could tell me the price of the dvds too, i might want to save up before the time comes.
thanks

You want the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire two disc special edition. The widescreen just means that it is like in the theatre, it is just wider. Full screen is adjusted so that it takes up the whole screen. That is the only difference. It will not matter anyway. Here in the US the two disc special edition only comes in widescreen.
PigWithHair
Mar 8 2006, 03:56 AM
Well, I don't know about monetary units where you are. Here in the States, the 2-disc version runs about $22.
Actually, if you look on the back of the DVD package, it plainly lists the special features included on the second disc, so if you look at the back, you should clearly be able to tell them apart.
Also, on the front I think ours says something like "Bonus Disc with Special Features" or something. It was very clearly marked, though I feel bad for those who didn't get what they wanted when they've been looking forward to it.
That sucks.
Some prefer widescreen, which shows exactly as it did in the theater, but shows with black on the top and bottom of the picture on your TV. I prefer that.
Others prefer full screen which is a narrower picture (stuff on the sides gets cut out) but doesn't have the black on the top or bottom. The picture takes up the whole of your TV screen.

hey prod,
if your dvd doesn't have any extras then you probably got the regular edition of widescreen or fullscreen.
if you wanted the extra scenes and interviews then you need the two-disc special edition with the silver outer case. (downside is only widescreen)
the single disc is around $18 while the special edition is $22.
in perspective you are going to pay for the extras

Well i managed to get my hands on the special edition widescreen (which came with a complemantary shirt!) and ill admit i was very pleased.
I liked the interviews with just the triwizard champions. But that may be because im inlove with Krum. ha ha ha. The games were bad, i couldnt figure out how to play the challenges. Also the trio interview was a bit drawn on and i dont think Rupert talked as much. He seemed not as important.
Other than that i was glad with the deleted scenes, except the three minute weird sister concert... WAY to long.

so prodfoot you got the dvd without the special features? feel sorry for you, man. but u still can get em from your frens though...
and PigWithHair, i agree with you. i think widescreen is a better bet than the fullscreen. i thought in the theatre, the picture was rectangular shaped, right? so unless we have a rectangular tv/pc, then we cant see the full picture, am i right? i guess widescreen will do for me..
i'm in Msia, somewhere between S'pore and Thailand. i read that it will be released on March 17th in spore and thailand, so i guess it will be the same in msia (i hope). the exchange rate(is that right) i think is somewhere between 1 dollar = RM 4. so it's...RM80? wow...that's kind of expensive man.. i think we can compare this to something... for RM 80, i can buy an average-quality shoe. or a shirt.
i guess you can put this DVD into a DVD-ROM pc, right? coz i dont have a DVD player.

This is just something I realized when watching the special features again. Did anyone else notice that the majority of the music used for the features is from PoA? There's a lot of
Buckbeak's flight, Aunt marge's waltz, and a couple of other songs. Does anyone know why they might have done that? I'm just curious, but maybe it's just an insignificant coincidence that doesn't really merritt any further discussion

Saddest Story Ever!
I thought I had preordered it a month ago, but nothing came today, so I checked, and I had done it wrong and had ended up not ordering anything! I looked all over town in stores that were still open after 1030pm and finally found the lame 1disc (sucks big time! no spcial features other than "language selection") that came with the "Scene It" Sampler game.
Words cannot express the sorry and emptiness in my heart. Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow.
rogue_290
Mar 8 2006, 08:05 AM
Hey Nimbus, I noticed the music playing in the back too. My only guess is they used it just becuase it sounds a lot more like the music that was in all 3 of the first movies. I mean that it's the theme that John Williams came up with and the one that most people instantly associate with Harry Potter. You know what I mean?
And for all you people who accidentally ended up getting just the film in the DVD pakcage, that really sucks. It's weird the way they have it set up this time. I know that the first two films came in only Widescreen format (except, I think maybe the second was avaliable in fullscreen, but stores didn;t stock it much). The third one was in both full and widescreen, and no matter which format you got, you still got the special features didn't you? I was hoping to get a full screen DVD for the 4th film, but there's no way I was going to skip out on the special features.
As far as I know, here in North America (at least Canada and the U.S.), if you want to special features, it should say SPECIAL EDITION right across the top of the cover, where it usually says either WIDESCREEN or FULLSCREEN. Either that, or like someone else mentioned above, just read the back cover, make sure it says 2 discs. But, if you haven't bought any of the other DVDs so far, and plan to get them all, there's a four pack out now, that has a total of 8 discs, meaning it has the film and special features for every film. (yea, I work at a retail store, haha)
Lt Adana
Mar 8 2006, 01:53 PM
The fact that it sucks does not begin to cover it. I cannot believe that they have just one disc in some packs. I don't remember this for any of the others and I just paid out $28 (in Bermuda) for the one lame disk. Didn't realise until we played the blasted thing that there were no features on it, so I have no chance of a refund, that's if they even got any 'special' ones here. I am really really cross at the poor crap marketing. This will really cause problems I am sure with people returning their DVDs. If you don't know that there are different ones, why would you look at the back of the pack, you just want to get home and play the darned thing!
wickdleebutifull
Mar 8 2006, 02:47 PM
I agree with yall about there being "different" discs....fortunatley i already knew that there was a difference and which one had the special features (the one with the silver outline on the front of the dvd)....so i got the special features and everything. The only thing that really bothered me was that the one with the special features was widescreen only. Personally i dont really like the widescreen. its kind of annoying. i'd much rather have the option of viewing the movie either in widescreen or full screen. I think they (makers) should think about these things when they make the dvds. I mean you shouldnt have a variety of different formats that the movie can be bought in. We wouldnt have a problem if every dvd came with the following:
*special features
*widescreen OR fullscreen viewing options
....that way EVERYBODY would be happy...and im sure it would be much easier on the makers as well.
The whole idea on having different formats of the movie is just "Riddikulus".
......BUT i did enjoy the special features on the dvd...i loved how there was more on the movie this time rather than just interviews. None of the other movies really showed the making of the movie in depth. I really enjoyed the deleted scences too. I thought the special features were great.
....and i was soooo happy to finally get to see the movie again (even after seeing it 5 times in theatres)....i like that i can go back to my favorite parts and pause to admire harry..he's so darn cute! hehe!
i know..im a dork. but a proud one!

I called Borders Bookstore and they had plenty yesterday, so they held one for me. I haven't seen the one disc example, but the 2 disc version has a silver cover, says "Two-Disc Special Edition" at the top, and lists the special features on the back. Borders had it on sale for $22.99 (regular $30.99). I'm not sure why they even bothered to market a one-disc version (which still costs close to $20).
I agree with what has been said about the extras so far--although I don't play the games, so I'm not sure what they're really like. Many of the additional scenes have been available online already, but it's nice to have them grouped together.
The man who does the interview with the trio is great--none of that insulting "shrunken head" joke as with the POA interviews. Rupert seemed more relaxed in this one, but he still doesn't talk very much--which has been the case throughout. Poor Emma and her braces--imagine having to take them on and off for each movie! She and Dan are just so articulate and fun--and I loved that 5 winners of a contest were allowed to ask one question each.
One of my favorite sections was seeing the "behind the scenes" day with the other 3 Triwizard champions--I love all the filming information and this section shows the make up rooms, dressing rooms, etc. I'm hoping that one day--when all 7 films are done--they'll do a MAKING OF HARRY POTTER special that shares all the backstage information. This DVD does a good job showing that info for the 3 tasks--but not such a good job with the Yule Ball.
I had hoped to see much more of the dancing practices--especially with Devon (Seamus), who was said to be really good at it. The little bit they DO share shows how much fun the students had doing the ball--but they could have interviewed more students during this sequence, which is very choppy in terms of filming. It's as if someone just picked up a video cam as an afterthought, rather than having the polish of the other scenes.
What really comes across in all the special features is how much ALL the people working on these films are enjoying themselves. The Mike Newell touches are delightful (wrestling on the floor with the twins during their beard scene, jumping up and down with the cast at a table before a scene). One thing I REALLY wish they'd taped was the workshop he did with the actors before the start of shooting--all of them comment on how much fun it was and what a good way it was to meet new people and get back into the "groove" of filming. I really hope Newell returns to direct films 6 and 7--and I wish he'd made a director's commentary.
RE: full screen VS widescreen--I used to get everything in full screen (including the first 3 Potter films) because I, too, HATED the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. However, I now have a larger TV and there is no doubt that the widescreen version shows the film as the director wants us to see it. Mine is only a 26 inch LCD screen, but I've already donated all my full screen versions and replaced the Potter films with widescreen.

For all those who got the single disc-with no extras versus the special edition with the extras-it pays to look at the back of the DVD's when you buy them. Thats what I did and thats when I realized the first disc I picked up said nothing about any extras. I then looked around for a few more minutes and found the special edition.

I agree with basically everything you said.
I was a bit disappointed with the deleted scenes though. All of them were very minimal and I can see why they were cut. I was really looking forward to a couple scenes I know they filmed because I've seen pictures, but they weren't on the DVD; that was the major disappointment and really my only complaint.
The extra features with the cast and crew were quite adorable. I enjoyed all the interviews and seeing them film the film. It seems like a truly fun, tight knit cast who really enjoy each other and I think that's adorable.

Something else I noticed. The movie automatically replays itself when it's over. I don't think the settings on my dvd player have been changed recently so I'm assuming it has something to do with the disk. I don't remember the other disks doing that; well I know for a fact the PoA one didn't because there were countless times I fell asleep watching the movie and woke up to the crazy laugh of the shrunken head. Anyway, I liked that it does it

As some of you may already know...GOF came out in Canada yesterday too! I bought it and I thought it was rather delightful. However, I was somewhat dissapointed with the deleted scenes. It was alot better than POA's deleted scenes but i just wish they were longer. There was one deleted scene from the Yule BAll with Snape and Karkaroff. I won't say much but when I saw it I was like, "Omigod, this is soooo not a children's movie..." Had they kept that scene, I think the film would've been rated 18+ !!! But I still wish there were more scenes. I can never get enough. They had all this behind the scene thing with the 3 champions...basically, a day in the shoes of a champion! It was really cool. You sort of get the chance to know them a bit and their experience on the set of Harry Potter. But i wish they would've done that for Dan, Rupert, Emma and Katie as well... That'd be awesome to watch! Man, watching all those behind the scene shots just makes you want to be a part of this film so much!...It's too bad we can't all shared the "magic."
Allie
Mar 9 2006, 12:08 AM
It was too bad that the DVD didn't have the director's commentary and JKR interview that WB once advertised (if these features
do in fact exist and I somehow missed them, please alert me!

), but beyond that, I thought it was pretty good. The DVD didn't rule as much as the movie itself (but that's a
very high bar... GoF was by far the awesome-est HP film), but I wasn't disappointed, either.
The deleted scenes... ehhh... I think the producers used good judgment in deciding what to cut, frankly. I liked seeing the deleted scenes because they're always just fun in general, but there weren't any scenes that made me go "OMIGOSH how on EARTH did that get left out???!!!" The scene with Snape and Karkaroff at the Yule Ball wasn't bad, but I felt the rest of them were pretty poor compared to the rest of what I considered a stellar film. We didn't need to see any more people getting invited to the Yule Ball or whatever, and the Weird Sisters concert...

Well, I got a kick out of the scene, mainly because I can't believe they actually filmed the whole thing, but by the time it reached two minutes and forty seconds... yeeech. Too protracted. Though the lyrics of the music made me laugh out loud, but we already knew about that.

Interviews with the trio.... mediocre. Dan was pretty good, although it was really obvious when he was trying to stall for time and he kept deferring questions to Emma and Rupert, which was kind of funny. Rupert, as usual, was too quiet -- it seemed to me like talking to him must've been like pulling teeth for the interviewer; he always seemed to appeal to Dan for help. Emma was downright horrible. I dunno, it's a matter of personal opinion, I guess, but she seemed a little ditsy to me if you get my drift. Too much of the "hahahahahehehehe" giggling and I just found her answers sort of
weird, if truth be told. My favorite part of the interviews with them was when the five fans asked them questions -- the little boy was SO cute, and I loved the last girl who asked the last question about their thoughts about books five and six. When Rupert said "I play Quidditch in this one, don't I?" the expression on her face was the most amusing thing ever. I don't think Dan, Rupert, and Emma had a clue what was going on in books five and six, and here we've got the hard-core fans traveling from all over the world to ask them about it!

A touch of irony.
The best interviews, IMO, were interspersed through the "Creating the Yule Ball" segment. I thought Alfie Enoch and Josh Herdman were really articulate, and Devon Murray and Matthew Lewis weren't bad, either. I actually was surprisingly impressed by the Yule Ball segment. I didn't expect to like it because I thought the Yule Ball was too built up in the GoF movie and pre-released footage, but it was okay... some parts were a little corny, perhaps, but what can you do? The only part I really didn't care for was how they placed so much emphasis on Hermione and her entrance and how the scene was all about Emma. I always considered the scene all about Neville, myself.

(Power to the Neville/Ginny shippers!!)
I thought the segment on the Triwizard Champions was probably the best part of the entire DVD -- it was cool to see a bit of "life on the set," and particularly from the perspectives of new cast members. It also was cool to see Clémence and Stan talk for a change, since they didn't get much of a chance in the movie itself!

Anyway, they all seemed to have good personalities (or at least for the camera, at any rate), and Robert and Stan in particular seemed to have good senses of humor.
I haven't gotten to the rest of the DVD and features yet, but that's my review thus far.

I wont get the dvd until mars twentyseventh(buhuhu).
Anyway the dvd seems to be fine though instedd of 4 clunky games they could have put in a commentary and Jkr intervju.

I thought the special edition was ok-I thought there would be alot more deleted scenes. There are only a few, you know they must have done alot more filming then that. I also thought the movie was going to be extended, it wasn't. The only good thing (for me) was that my bootleg copy was a bit green

and now I can really watch the movie in color. YEAH!

Ok. I realize this is the type of behavior that the stars find kind of creepy and obsessive, but I couldn't help but notice. When Emma is saying in an interview how nice it is to see everyone after a break in the filming of the movies, did anyone else notice (I believe it was at the Lake set) how she rested her head on Dan's shoulder and they seem to be both smiling? Man, I wish the camera would have kept rolling for a few more seconds. I wonder what he was thinking!
(Sigh) I know it's pathetic to micro-analyze like this, but I am totally hooked when it comes to anything about this movie.

I actually haven't gotten that far on the extras....
Which is funny because I was a big nerd and went out to Wal-Mart at 12:30 in the morning on a school night to pick up my Super-Sleek Edition of the fourth movie. I call it Super-Sleek because it is all silver and stuff. And I also thought it was a bit stupid that all of the DVDs didn't have two discs.
I saw the Yule Ball behind the scenes thing and I was so jealous! They made it look like so much fun! I really enjoyed that and we got to hear from a lot of different people.
The deleted scenes...am I the only one in here who's jaw dropped at that one deleted scene with Harry, Snape and Karkaroff? That was a bit....not...for children...um...yeah. I think the scene was fine once Harry started listening to them, but the beginning was a bit dodgy. I did enjoy the Weird Sisters "concert" but I'm glad they cut it. It would've been boring in theatres.
I also really liked the cast interview with the trio. Dan did a lot of the talking. Emma talked, but it was kind of distracting how she wouldn't open her mouth because she had braces. Someone asked like on the first page if she had them, and yeah, she did. I think it would suck to get them on and off like that. Braces are in my future.

Rupert didn't talk to much. But I wish he had. Some one needs to get that boy to talk!!! I'm glad the talking head was not in this one....
My overall rating is Awesome!! I give it a 20 out of 10. Just because I'm an HP freak and I can't give anything HP a bad grade. Though the movie wasn't exactly the best it could've been...

I love the DVD. I think everyone will enjoy the Yule Ball Extras and especially the interview with Dan, Rupert and Emma. The deleted scenes were good also. There are only 8. Oh and make sure when you guys buy the DVD that you get the TWO-DISC SPECIAL EDITION not the regular one because that only has the movie. Only the special edition has the Special features. A lot of people I know got confused and they got the wrong one.

i got the DVD when it first came out! my dad bought it for me and i had to remind him like 5 times before he went to get the one with the silver cover and not the blue one because the silver one has the special features! since i finished my homework around 7... i got to watch it the same day!
i loved this movie and it was great to watch it and all the special features! the first day i watched the yule ball extra which was really cool.... i really loved the set of the yule ball! later, i got to watch all the other special footage like the interview, reflections on the fourth film, first task, meet the champions, second task, third task, and the voldemort scene.
i really recommend you get the 2-disc special edition because i love watching behind the scenes footage and i thought this DVD had the best special features footage! the ones i recommend you should see is the interview, second task, voldemort, and yule ball... the other ones are great too... but those were my favorite
i almost forgot to talk about the additional scenes! those were awesome... i wish they put the ones that had to do with the plot like the karkaroff/snape scene... and the one where the trio talks about crouch's death... the yule ball scene with the weird sisters that got cut off was great... but it's not really needed in the movie and many people probably would have complained that it dragged on too much
i give this DVD an A+ so hurry up and buy it if you haven't and i'm sorry to those who have to wait longer!

I got one without special features! I never knew there was another one. Maybe it was Sold Out but I can't return it because I watched it once, right? Then my sister went on the internet and it killed me to see a trailer of the 2-Disc Special Eddition with hours of special features! I am so upset!
