About six years ago my sister got the first three hp books from my grandmother. That night my dad read the frst chapter to us before we went to sleep. I was hooked right away and decided that I would read the rest. My sister wasn't so enthusiastic about it and allowed me to read her copies. I have been a fan ever since and now find it incredibly difficcult to put the book down. I have read the books over and over about a hundred times. I even have two sets, a hard cover and a soft cover.
MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours
I got interested as soon as my friend told me about the books, which was about a year after the third book came out happy.gif

I never even knew the Harry Potter books existed at first. Even after I saw the first movie, I didn't realise it was based on a book (Yep, I was living under a rock, inside a cave, underground, with my eyes closed, and my fingers in my ears wacko.gif )

Anyway, my sister-in-law is a big HP fan, and one day I was talking to her about the movie, and she said that I should read the book as it was much better, and there was more to the story than they showed in the movie, so I bought the first book, then the second.... and I haven't looked back since!
Julia_Rose_Black
When I first heard about the book (There was only one out then) I thought it was a load of rubbish, a stupid children's book about magic. Boy was I wrong!! My dad finally convinced me to read it after he did and said it was great. So I read the first book in less then a week and I've been hooked ever since! biggrin.gif

I got the first two books when I was about seven and I had no idea what Harry Potter was then. I remember finding the book after starting to read it. I was absorbed and I had been quite drawn into it. I finished the first book and then the second one. By the time the third book came out I was anticipating it and was so excited for it. When the fourth book came out I was mesmerized by how much I loved it. I was completely obsessed by the fifth book. Now I am. . . .wow-obsessed. tongue.gif

how i got interested in the HP books
well........
its sorta a long story
though probably no where as long as some of the ones i've seen biggrin.gif
any way
heres how i got started
it all started when my family went to disneyland. it was evening and we were watching TV. there was nothing to watch and Mom changed the channel and they were showing the movie HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Mom got so interested, when we got home and went to the library, she checked the first book out. So, over the next week she read it and sometimes i read over her shoulder. I got so interested myself that multiple times i tried to take the book and read it only to be told "wait till I finish, then you can read it" so i waited. i read it , got hooked and wanted to read all the books. I read CoS right away, but i didnt read PoA until about two weeks later. I was so obsessed that i read the books while i ate breakfast, after school and during dinner time. i was so absorbed in the books, i never realized that my parents and my sister were talking to me. as a result, mom and my sister call me oblivious all the time. ah well. so now i am a full time HP fan and i go on this website every day i can to check up on the latest news.

well im a late bloomer when it comes to being a fan of the harry potter series. i haven't read any books of it and i only became interested when prisoner of azkaban came out then i started reviewing the late films. we're a bit late when it comes to seeing movies here in switzerland we're mostly fond of just watching our local shows than international ones. but thanks to the power of internet my love for harry potter became instantly a fetish wub.gif

Hmm... Well, it was really when the PS movie came out. It was my friend's birthday and she invited me to come with her family to watch it. I thought it was really good but I didn't really think that I'd find the book that interesting. Anyway, I told my sister how good it was and she really wanted to go and see it but my dad wouldn't take her... I think she was about 7 at the time so he didn't think she'd sit through it. When it came out on DVD we bought it and I probably watched it about 3 times that day. Then, the next time we went shopping my dad bought us the whole series so far, books 1-4. I don't think I read the first one when we got it because I thought it would be too much like the film but I loved the other 3 books. Yeah, that's basically the whole story... Now I'm really obsessed and I can't wait for the 7th book! biggrin.gif

if anyone thinks they are a late bloomer when it comes to HP, i just got started this year and after the sixth book came out!

I read book 2 when I was 10 years old.. But I think it was to boring... So I wouldn't read the rest of the books..

But my best friend said to me (when I was 14) that Harry Potter was the best and I should read them..
So I did.. And Harry Potter is my favourite books..
I have read them many time.. biggrin.gif

I got hooked on the HP books about a year before the first movie came out. I was ten years old and in 5th grade. One day my mom saw the first book and decided to get it for me because I really liked to read. Well, I didn't even read the book for the first week but finally decided to try it. I read the book in about a day and then begged my mom to go and get me the next one. I've been hooked ever since. I still remeber when I first saw the trailer for the first movie, I just started jumping up and down and and I was so excited I went and immediately went and read all the books I had again!

After the Burial
I did not read any of the books or see any of the movies until I my freshmen year in college (fall of 2003). My sister was talking about the books and said that I would enjoy them. I took her advice and read the first one. Clearly one of the best decisions I ever made. Every time a book has come out, I have read it that day without stopping. They are simply too good to put down. I remember starting to read PoA at 10 pm. I went to class the next morning not having slept because it was simply too exciting to put away. Every book has been like that.

This summer, I read books 1-6 three times each. I read book 6 seven times this year. (I should point out that my job gives ample leisure time for reading.)

well, it was like this...I was a little kid when the movie came out. (I was about 7) My dad said we could go to the movies and gave me the choice to see either monsters Ink or Harry Potter and the PS. I instantly chose Harry potter and when the movie finished I loved it! (I got a bit freaked out at the voldemort thingy, but I still loved it!) I started drawing all these pictures of harry, ron and hermionie and then I asked my dad to read me the book.(I was only 7 and I couldnt read novels that well.) I asked him to read me the second one and then when I just turned 8, I started to read long novels! I read 1 & 2 by myself, I struggled a bit with 3, and then read them over and over again and Harry Potter 1 was the first ever long novel I read! biggrin.gif Ever since I was 7, i was hooked and I still am and always will be. smile.gif

I went to the movies with my sister and Harry Potter and Philosophers Stone was the only movie showing in the La Premiere suite. So we went and watched it. The next day I went and bought the first four books and pulled two consecutive all nighter's to read through all of them. Then I slept like a baby... and was hooked. biggrin.gif

I started to get Interested when my parents brought me the first book for my 9th birthday, when i finished reading it i went tothe shops and brought the 2nd one and i have been Interested ever since.

Cool topic biggrin.gif Well... I first heard about HP in school when i was 8 or 9. The first book had recently come out and my teacher was telling us about it... but i wasn't that interested at the time. And then the next year when the second book came out everyone around me went into some sort of craze ( i swear, if it wasn't every person, at least every other person was reading that book) and so i though 'what the heck... if everyone's so into it ..then it can't be that bad'...and so i decided to read the first book. And of course i was hooked from the moment i had finished the first sentence biggrin.gif
And then i had to read the second one as fast as i could get my hands on it... and when i had finished that as well i thought i was going to go crazy waiting for the third biggrin.gif
So that's the story of how i got hooked on HP tongue.gif
shelerella
Well the first time I saw HP was when SS came out to buy.. My mom bought it because she thought it looked cute, and we all sat down and watched it after Thanksgiving dinner..Then I went home with my husband and thought: "hmmmm kind of a cute show", and didn't think much of it. Then it was my husband's little sister, who had by now been reading HP that told us just how cool she thought it was and that we should get interested in it. It was watching Chamber of Secrets that got my husband going, and so since we both wanted to read the books, but he doesn't have much time. We started getting the books on audio and listening to them when we traveled. After that we were pretty much hooked. After listening to to SS and CoS we went and bought them both on DVD, and we've been Harry fans ever since. The only book we don't have on audio is HBP, but that is because we bought the book and read it..Just to see if we prefered reading to listening. (I prefer reading, my husband prefers listening) So we'll probably have to go get it on audio too. biggrin.gif

How i got intrested was....
I read a bit of the first book and then watched the first movie. I then became fanatic about it. And started to read the rest of the set. When i got them for Christmas.

I started reading the PS/SS when I was eleven & I'm nearly 17 now so I've been a fan for a while biggrin.gif , my parents wouldn't let me go to the midnight opening of OotP so I had to get it at 6 the next morning. I queued for HBP though for 16 hours & I can't wait for the next book. I enjoy the movies but they don't do the book justice, .................... sorry that was really boring unsure.gif

my mom wouldn't let me read them and she said they were evil. but then my friend was reading PoA and he let me borrow it i read like the first chapter and i really liked it. so then i got the first one and i've been hooked ever since! tongue.gif

I became interested when I was in fifth grade. I was 11 years old and everyone around me was reading it so I just decided to break my little habit of not being a trend follower and read the first book. I became hooked ever since. Reading CoS until I reached GoF (my favourite book in the series). By the time I reached GoF, it was a year after I read the first book.

I'm now 16 and I'm in love with the book series Harry Potter.
yelmosleh
i got interested when i was in 8th grade. i was a library helper and at the end of the year i got the PoA as a gift (which is why it is my favorite book). i read it and found it really fun and interesting, then i found that it was the 3rd one so i persued in collecting all books.

SlytherinHeadGirl05
I got interested in HP by complete ACCIDENT!!!! and out of trickery too. lol. When HP craze first started, when Book 1 came out, I did NOT get into it. I am the type who doesn't like following other people's crazes "Oh that's in, that's not" you know? So I avoided Harry Potter all together. Especially after seeing it on the news, the lines and everything for the books o.o god that was crazy so no...i didn't follow. My sister, got into it because of a friend brought the book to school and my sis read it, she was instantly hooked. me i was not, she tried to convinve me to read it but i refused lol. oh boy, well...lol it wasn't until the first dvd came out did i get into it BUT BY A TRICK!!!!!! tongue.gif My sister was like "come watch it" i said no!!!! i went into my room and was on the computer i think when my sister started screaming for me. I thought it was important, it wasn't -.- and god do i NOT regret this day either lol. I came out into the living and the tv was paused on something, i didn't look yet. I was like "what?" to my sister. she asked me "do you think this guys is cute?" she pointed at the screen. Okay when i was younger and just getting into boys 13-16 years old i was VERY boy crazy (not sleeping around)just found almost every guys cute lol and i broke my neck a few times checking them out biggrin.gif biggrin.gif anyways, i looked at the tv....my mouth fell open and i was like "Hell yeah!" it was paused on Oliver Wood. It was during the scene he was teaching harry all about quidditch. when he spoke i literally went weak in the knees. Then something caught my attention...he had said "Nice shot Potter." ...I glared at my sister, "Potter?! POTTER?!!? This is harry potter huh!?!?!" she nodded and grinned. I was hooked as i listened to the rules of quidditch i made her back the dvd and watch it all over, from then on i was a fan. of the movies only ok? it wasn't until i saw the 4th movie in theaters did my curiosity of wanting to read the books come about. everyone i was sitting with during the movie, as we left were litterally ****ing about all that was changed and cut out..*imagine a cat's ears twitching* that was my curiosity at that moment lol. finally after the 4th dvd came out and my siblings were ****ing about all the stuff changed and wrong with the dvd i read the books. OotP and HBP were like little mini-movies in my head o.O lol that's my story.
FFFanatic06
A friend introduced me. At first I was skeptical, I'd concluded most fantasy stories were Tolkein knockoffs or worst recycled Anglo-Saxon legends. But then I actually read the SS/PS. I was blown away by the sweetness of the first chapter. I'll never forget those opening lines 'Mr and Mrs Dursley of Number 4 Privet Drive were proud to say they were perfectl normal; Thank-you very much.' I fell in love.

Okay...around first or second grade my grandmother bought me the first book. I didn't like it at all. My mom tried to get me to read it because it was a gift and everything but I made up excuses, such as, 'It's scary and I don't want to read it at night so I don't have nightmares'. pretty pathetic. But gradually she forgot about it and it lay at the back of my bookcase. Then in third grade towards the end of the year my mom got mad at me for something and I went to my room to stay out of her way. My eyes fell on the discarded book at the very back of my bookcase and I figured that I would give it another chance. I guess in second grade I didn't like it because I couldn't understand it, but there, a year or so later, I understood it perfectly and really liked it. Then that summer (since the year was almost over) I got the second book. It just so happened that I did one of those Barns and Noble's things where if you read eight books you get one of previously selected books free. Well, Chamber of Secrets was one of the books. I loved that one too. Then I got the third one. The fourth came at Christmas during fourth grade. The fifth came in the mail a few weeks after it came out from my grandmother. ha, I remember now, it came when we were out of town and it had rained when we were away and there was this package getting sopping wet. Needless to say, the book is fine. And then I was at the Half Blood Prince Premiere So, six years after picking up that book at the back of the bookcase I love them.
Aguamenti353
My grandparents got me the first three as a Christmas gift back when I was either in third or fourth grade. I read them all and absolutely loved them! Now I own all six books, all four movies, and I peruse them whenever I get the chance!
twiggysun
At first I didn't even know Harry Potter excisted (awful I know). At some point my little brother went to see the first film with his school and a couple of days later we (the whole family) went to the movies and saw the movie too. I didn't have a wow reaction but I liked it anyway.. well the next summer I went on vacation and I got a bit bored, my little brother had the firts two books with him and I started to read... well, I've been addicted ever since!!!! So I owe it all to my little brother
stag
When I was 6, I couldn't read that well yet, but my mom kept buying me Harry Potter books. I was always dissapointed that she would buy me yet another, yet I couldn't read them. Then once, about a year later, when I was feeling particularly guilty about not reading the books my mom bought me, I took and started reading them. It's been 6 years since then, and I still love Harry Potter! wub.gif It was love at first book.
clara morgue
when i was about eight or nine, my school had a competition to build what you think hogwarts looked like. i built a big castle out of clay or something and won!!! but the day before we gave them in i read the first book and made sure i was an expert! i orefer the books to the films because they are the original , but the films -the actors- are great too...especially alan rickman... wub.gif
Jimmy_two_shot
ER I cant remember when I got interested - it was about 5 ish years ago when I watched the first Film ( i think no good with dates was PS out then???)

But i didn't get interested in the books until I bought my fiance HBP then I got bored read it myself and then read though all of the old books (although I read them backwards hbp -> PS so very confusing lol )
gryffindorgirlie
Errr.... I cant acctually remeber? I think My sister got into it first and got a golden snitch calculator and I wanted it but she said I could have the book instead. Better comprimise if you ask me. Plus now, I'v acctuallt got the calculator.
Phoenix92
I got interested when I first watched the movie.Actually I got the whole set of books in 2004,since buying here is too costly. So my father told me to work in the shops and buy myself the books. When I got all set of 5 books,I was like relieved that I don't need to work anymore in the shops!.I forced my father to buy HBP from his own pocket! tongue.gif
DracosLady
My kids had always liked HP so one day I went and bought the SS and CoS and after watching those two movies I was hooked! I then immediately went out and bought PoA and could not wait for GoF to come out. After watching the movies I started getting all of the books to read. I was very disappointed by the way the movies cut out so much from the books though.
Nymphodora
when i was at uni 5 years ago my friend was reading Philosophers stone and i was taking the mick! she said i'd like it if i gave it a try, and i love reading so i did and couldnt stop after that! bought all the books and films so far
Jezebel
Well, when the first book came out, I bought it. I started reading it and LOVED it! For some unknown reason I stopped reading it and never picked it back up again until just this past summer. I started from the beginning and finished the 6th book within a month....for the first time. I also saw all the movies for the first time over the summer as well. Except for the first one, I'd already seen that one.

I unfortunately can't say I've been a HP fan since the beginning. Although I would have been if I hadn't stopped reading the dang book! Geez. What was I thinking?

Anyways. OoTP will be the first "Harry in the theater" experience for me. Eeek! I'm so excited.
The release of the 7th book will also be my *ahem* "first time" if you will. I'll go the day it comes out, of course, and fight through the crowd, which I so dearly hate to do. But I'll do it for HP! biggrin.gif
phoenixfeathers
When I was in the second grade (years back) my best friend introduced me to the books that were already published in the series, and as soon as I finished the Philosopher's Stone, I was hooked. I read the books the day they were released, and I've seen the movies on the dates they came out in theaters. I have a shelf in my room completely dedicated to the book series. The books, some other books related to them, the movies, and some little figures are there, and I have a bunch of posters. I'm... obsessed!
hufflepuff_alumni
I was taking a trip from Portland to Seattle and back via Amtrak. I had no tunes (or a player, rather) and needed a new book to read on the way. I was bringing some belongings to a friend in Seattle and she had a copy of the first book. I read all the way to Seattle and couldn't give up the book..but my friend said no way, and I had to buy a new copy so I could finish it on the return trip. So I got to read the first book on a train. That was awesome.
magicalfairy
I started my interest in Harry Potter around the end of 2005 in December. I was not sure if they were going to continue making the movies or not and I did not want to wait around to find out about what happens in the fifth installment of Harry Potter.

I went and bought the 6th book first and started with it and read them backwards. It is fun reading. Couriosity got the better of me and I finally broke down and bought the books to read, and I have loved them ever since. Basically just over a year ago.
twilightprince
Hmm... interesting topic. I used to really hate harry potter. I had this friend that was really obsessed with it and quite frequently said that he was really into harry potter dry.gif . Last spring break i was at my aunts house in california and i saw that she had the harry potter series and so i decided to read it and see why so many people like it. But my parents never let me read it because they said it dealt with the occult and blah blah blah. So i got the first one from the library and read it in about a day or two. I didnt want to have to wait for the rest from the library so i borrowed them from my obsessed friend and read the whole series in about two weeks laugh.gif . And now im pretty much obsessed with it too.
TiffTay
I started reading it my ninth grade year. My friend got me hoked b/c i kept makig fun of her for readig hp.But when she read me the first chapter I was hooked. I love it. And I feel bad for making fun of all those people i called "dorks" for reading hp but now im a dork to but i dont care. I love hp and if that makes me a dork so be it.
Meggera
How I got started was My grade three teacher started reading the first one to us (the book that is) and i really got into it. The year ended before we finished and I wanted to know what happened next so i took my sister's copies of the first 4 (cause that's all that was out at the time) and read them all. I am in Year 7 now (one more day till year 8) and still a faithful fan smile.gif

well, this is my story the story i remember every time i pick up one of the books,
my older cusin david was five and i was four years old, he had gotten interested by a friend in his class, i didn't like it but that was because i didn't know, didn't know what an inpact it would make on my life.
so for my fith brithday, is when it all hapend, my parents got me 1 big peresnt and one smaller present ( they thought the book would be just a small present but it turned out to be so big) my dad handed me a neatly wrapped present saying this is form your mom and i, i quickly ripped it open and there it was the book that has changed my life, changed my life for so much better, that night my mom started to read it too me ( i was only 5 and could read well) and that was the night i shall never never ever for get, that night changed my life.

ever since that night i've been hooked!!
7134407
Well I got started in 5th grade because my teacher started reading SS in class and then my friends got hooked and so did I. Then I got out of it after the 4th book for a while. After that, I got hooked again one night after getting bored and finding the 5th book lying around.
love_angel_music_baby
Well, I was in the 7th grade when my best friend Jessica showed me the books because she was obsessed with them. So, she gave me the first book to read and I loved it! I went home where my brother had all the books, and I asked him if I could start reading them and I finished the whole series in about 6 months ( I'm a slow reader....) and I loved it ever since. happy.gif
quidditch rocks
well i had never even heard of h.P. till i went down to my cousins. His mom was reading him cos. when i got there Mrs. Norise had just been petrified. i stayed for a few weaks and we finished the book the day before we whent home. I loved it I begedd my mom and we checked out the first one and read it together. biggrin.gif Pathetic though this seemes but my mom thought it was a wast off time and complete garbage and thence forth banned me from ever reading one again. sad.gif
I felt rather miserable as all my friends talked about it. sad.gif Mom decide it was okay for me to see each movie once. sleep.gif she made her fatal mistake. in the little time since i had been banned and the time when i saw the first movie i became obsesive with tring to get her to see that they weren't worthless books. I watched the movies obsesivly. then this september i met a new friend. we started trading books and she found out i wasn't aloud to read hp even though i loved the books. last month i broke my last reserve on my do what mom sayd. I smuggled books into the house with my friends aid. I found a secret shelf in the cuboard under the stairs. yes i live in the cuboard under the stairs. Not like that but because in comparison to the room i could have instead the cuboard seems nicer, the room i could have is freezing during the winter. lasted two months in it. sorry i'm side tracking. i have in between then and now read and reread the entire seiries twice. I am completaly in love with it. wub.gif
Mom found out last weak shutup.gif and instead off grounding me she said read if u must and gave the look that says but i will be rather disopionted. I think in the last weak she has come to grips with the fact that i did it without asking permission and i am very glad that i didn't loose the books in reture for my stupididy in leting her find out. biggrin.gif
Hagrid_for_President
My little brother had SS and i had always been the reader in the family. but i was never interested in the HP series.actually i hated it. i thought it was a rediculous consept and a book for children. but since i was bored one day, i started reading the first book. the was right before it came out in theaters. i was a couple of chapters into the book and we went to the movies to see it. it was such a great movie and i couldn't wait to go back home and finish the book. i think at this time, or shortly after, CoS has already came out ( the book). i have been hooked over since that day!
