How do I upload my avatar?
Extensive help related to avatars, images and signatures can be found here. Unfortunately, due to settings on this board, you will not be able to upload images straight from your computer. What you'll need to do is sign up to an online image hosting service and upload your images onto that account beforehand. Alternatively, you can also choose from a variety of pre-installed avatars from the Base Gallery located under My Controls (top right of the page) > Personal Profile > Edit Avatar Settings

How do I create my signature?
Go to My Controls (top right of the page) > Personal Profile > Edit Signature. Please note that as per the forums rules, you are only allowed FIVE lines of normal-sized text and an image, or collection of images, no larger than 400 pixels ACROSS x 150 pixels DOWN. To check the size of your image(s), right-click on it and go to Properties. Please check your signatures - if they are oversized, they may be edited and/or deleted without further notification.

How/Where do I get sorted?
By answering a set of questions in the various quizzes we have on site to be found here in 'The Sorting' forum.

Where do I get the results of the quizzes? Will they be Owled to me?
No, results won't be Owled to you. The results of all the quizzes will be posted by the quiz co-ordinator within the quiz thread itself, so just keep checking back to see if they've posted. The results are done with different frequencies for each quiz, depending largely on how much time the co-ordinator has. You should see your results posted within seven days though. If it's been more than seven days, then please contact one of the Wizengamot for help.

Who are the staff here?
There are three main groups :
The Wizengamot (moderators), Head Aurors and Administrators
You can read more about us through our profiles or on the main VTM site here.

What do the various titles (e.g Rescuing Sirius, On Platform 9 3/4) on people's profiles mean? How can I change mine?
There is a thread explaining this and it's here. But please note that here at VTM we very much value QUALITY over quantity!! wink.gif

Forums things

How do I become a moderator/prefect (Also known as Wizengamot and Head Aurors)?
We do not take applications; moderators and prefects are elected based on recommendations from the current forums staff team. If you hope to be considered sometime, here are some hints as to what we look for: you would have to have been here a considerable amount of time, have clear understanding of and have always abided by the rules, and we have seen that you can pen/participate in well thought-out, intelligent discussions across our forums.

Can we RPG here?
No, unfortunately you can't. We decided not to allow it because the VTM forums are a place for conversation and discussion, and RPG's do not promote that. We would have to turn the post count off because people would use it to artificially inflate their post counts, and it would be chock full of one liners which would be a waste of our bandwidth that could better be used for the debates. There are many other sites out there where you can, however, so just google them up wink.gif

I'm posting like crazy, but my post count isn't going up. Why?
That's because you're probably trying to post here, in the Quidditch Pitch. This forum is for games only and hence the post count has been turned off to prevent people artificially inflating their post counts. As already mentioned, we value quality over quantity here!

What's the difference between PM and Owl?
There is no difference - they're the same thing. You'll still see some references to 'PM', because habits are hard to break tongue.gif

What does 'card' mean by the PM button?
It's just like a card from a Rolodex - it contains shortcut contact information about a member. Most people just click on usernames though, which pulls up a full member profile.

What does 'ships' mean?

'Ships' is short for 'Relationships'. There's a fairly long story behind the origin of the word, but it comes mostly from internet fandoms where supporters of particular relationships in a series - such as the X Files, Star Wars etc - became known as 'shippers'. So, in the HP universe, there were Ron/Hermione 'shippers', Harry/Hermione 'shippers' etc. The 'shippers' sailed on their various 'ships'...and there was a whole host of other sea-faring analogies used in the now infamous shipping wars, and some of the ships were even named - HMS Harmony, for example, was the Harry/Hermione ship. If you're interested in finding out more about them, check out the Ships Archive, particularly the 'H/Hr Vs R/Hr debate' threads.

Bells and whistles

How do I search for specific topics?
There are 4 ways of doing this. There's the old-fashioned way, and that is manually skimming through each and every section and/or forum tongue.gif The second is to use our Search Facility (top right between "Help" and "Members"). Further explanation on how to use the search facility can be found here. The third way is via our many Masterlists we have located across the forums: HP Character Threads Masterlist, HP Cast Threads Masterlist, Horcrux Threads Masterlist, Ships Masterlist, TV & Media Masterlist, Topics of Interest and Favorites Polls.

How do I quote another member's post?
Please click here to learn how.

How do I quote different members' posts in one post?
This is explained clearly here.

How do I use tags in my post?
There are clear instructions on how to use tags here.

How do I add links to my posts?
This is explained clearly here.

How do I edit/delete my posts/topics?
You can edit your own posts, but you can't delete them. To delete a post, you'll have to contact a Wizengamot member. If you want to edit your post for content or length, please use the IPB Image button at the bottom right of your post box.

How do I edit the topic title of my thread?
You can't, I'm afraid. Only a Wizengamot member can do that, so please contact any one of us via PM and we will do it for you smile.gif

Accounts, usernames and settings

How do I delete my membership?
We do not allow/encourage this as it only promotes people attempting to get past the rules and avoid being given warning and being placed on moderator previews. This also goes for creating second accounts. Only Admin can delete a member's account and there are always very good reasons for doing so, and it's not usually at a member's request.

How do I change my username?
Only an administrator can do this for you but only within reason. Name changes are considered at the Wizengamot's discretion. Please be aware that you should never create an account using your email address as your username.

How do I change the time to match my timezone?
Go To My Controls > Options > Board Settings.

Technical stuff

Why can't I get into the chatroom?
The chatroom is manned by a totally different staff team, therefore we won't be able to assist you in this area. Please forward your problem via the main site's feedback form instead.

Why can't I post in the threads under the Great Hall?
Because the Great Hall is restricted to members of the Duelling Club, which is our debating society within the VTM forums. To learn how to become a member, carefully read through this thread.

I'm having problems posting and/or general problems with the site - where do I go for help?
To Dumbledore's Office. Please check the threads there though to see if your question has already been answered before posting.

Where can I download the Harry Potter fonts?

Lately we've been asked where to download the various fonts featured in the Harry Potter series. We now have a wide variety of Harry Potter related fonts on Veritaserum and you can download them all in our media section here.

These fonts are for personal application use only and you will not be able to use them on the forums. There is a guide there which will walk you through how to install the selected fonts and use them in your computer applications (ie: Microsoft Word, Photoshop, PowerPoint etc...). Enjoy! magic.gif
