I am willing to write to the producers and tell them I am not happy with the Hack Job they are doing to the Harry Potter scrips. I hope that if we sent them 90,000 or so letters telling them we won't go to the movies if they cut them up again.. That we could make them listen to us who pay them lots of money?
What do you folks think?

Mmm....I'm really not sure that it would make much of a difference to them. There are many, many reasons why cuts are made to the scripts, mostly to do with monetary considerations. I know it's not much consolation - I'm one of the most outspoken people on the forums about the book-slashing that goes on in the movies, but I understand why they're necessary.
What I think will probably stand more of a chance is if you agree that some cuts are necessary, but that they be more selective in what they cut. It seems, for example, from the press that Gary Oldman got this week, that there are some things that fans just won't tolerate being fiddled with and Sirius' role is one of them - I think WB must have got that message loud and clear now. I'm not sure that the same passion will extend to other things though - like the hospital scene, for example, or Grawp, or the centaurs....these things are up for a bit more debate.
Of course, the hype about Gary Oldman might have just been exactly that - hype, but if it wasn't, it certainly does show that fan pressure can sometimes make a difference so as long as you're not rude or aggressive in your letters, then sure...why not? The worst they can do is ignore them.

Michelle Dessler,
Thanks for your input. I do under stand about movie cuts but with the outright success of Kill Bill witch" play on words" two part movie. Look at the $$$$ they have missed out on..
The Harry Potter books are a win win with the fan base that we are..
WB is run by fools, plain and simple. I know for a fact that we all would have went to part one and then to part two of GOF. 10,000,000 books in a week?
I just think if we pound them with letters they might think about it again..
Thanks again.

I personally thought that the Goblet of Fire movie was 2 out of 5 possible stars because they cut so much. Most of the important scenes were cut and totally deleted from the movie. I think that this was a good choice for partial HP fans, but not for mega fans like us. Although, who would want to sit through an 18 hour movie? Maybe if they had 6 intermissions or something, but yeah; if we bomb the producers with letters of complaint, we might get our way! Lets do it! Just e-mail everyone with the address to send it too.

I signed so many petitons to WB to make GOF into either a longer movie or put it into two parts but obviously that went unheeded. They know that no matter what they do we will still go to see the movies. The only way to make them sit up and take notice of us is to boycot the movies and we all know that isn't going to happen. They see us as money, not people. We go to the movies, we by the DVD's and Videos and their happy while we're left standing there wondering what the hell they were thinking. We're suckers for punishment. They know that and so they'll keep cutting books to make the movies, disregarding our protests and there's nothing we can do about it because we're all suckers! No offense to anyone but that's my observation.
We'll protest til we're blue in the face then go back on it and see the movies anyway. Now, I signed the petitions and you know what? I didn't go to see GOF. Fair enough I'm buying it on DVD but the fact is I didn't cave in and go see it after protesting. They make less money from the DVDs then they do from the movies.

I understand what you are saying Nailgun, but I also agree
with Michelle. There are so many reasons why these alterations
and substitutions have to be made. I myself wish the movies
could be just like the books, but it is not practical.
Some parts from the books are not right for film. In other words,
they would be too time consuming or too hard to get across to
the mainstream audience.
But still, even after all the cuts and alterations are done, we are
still left with a wonderful masterpiece of filming achievement.
They can't change the movie to the point where I won't go
to see it.

Even if the movies dont have everything that the books have its ok
JKR and almost every other author want to fill your imagination with their stories and ideas because thats what reading a book is about. Taking you to a far off place without ever leaving the comfort of your seat...
so what if they had to cut out a lot of stuff, i still think the movie was really good.
i also think that if JKR has no problem with it that none of the fans should either

I'm not that happy with all the things they cut out of the movie, but if you think about it, if they include everything in the movie the movie would be 6 hours. They'd get a lot less money because not a ton of people want to sit in a theatre for 6 hours.

I think that you are so right they cut too much like when there in Rons room and Hermione wakes them up there only there for about less than a minuit then there walking to the portkey whats with that?

the movie was AWESOME!!!!But if you have read the book, it is a small, tiny...DISASTER!!!
But let's think positive, the film is a different thing...book is a diiferent one too....the film is just based on the book, not a copy of it!!!So, we have to be more sensible, I guess!

I don't think that letters will make much of a difference. You would have to get every person who likes HP to convince them. As much as I would like them not to cut anything out I think they have made up their minds.

I don't think letters would make much difference, unless they thought that they would lose money. Those people are all about the money, it doesn't matter to them that they are butchering great pieces of literature. And, despite the Hack Job they are doing, people are still going in droves to see the movies (I've seen all of them, I have the DVD's, and I will be going to see the rest of them, and will buy those DVD's too), so they are making their millions.
As for cutting bits out, they need to. It's just not practical to follow the books absolutely faithfully, as they would end up with a 15 hour movie, which would be massively expensive, and no-one would be prepared to sit through it. And when they cut bits out, they have to change some other things to explain the gaps in information left by the bits they cut.
The one thing that really annoys me, though, is when they cut bits that were in the books just so they can make room for bits that have been made up by the movie makers.

i doubt htat would work but i think they should reconcider the parts that are cut out or ask fans what they think or something. they tore apart GoF. i thought it was aweful

I think to make an impact you would have to get everyone everywhere to write in. Even then it would only make a small difference. I wish it could happen though. Long live the voice of the people!

i totally agree with this, i'd never thought of it like that, the film is
based on the book, not a copy of it

I think because WBros is such a big industry, it wouldn't make a difference to them. Although some lines are absolutely at a five-year-old standard, I just don't think we would get there.
PS, can you imagine the look on their faces when they see about a million letters????

EDIT: SOrry, just realised I doubled posted.....
