I've been playing with the images a little and here's something I've done in about 10 minutes. It's obviously much less than perfect - the sword isn't very visible, the edges are uneven, etc., etc. - but I want your opinion on the general arrangement of the items. And any suggestions you might have, please, post them.

Hmm, maybe we could also put the motto on the signature as well. Hmm, the mods haven't notified me yet about them judging. It looks like we should just start a thread and put all the motto's down on a poll and then vote which is the best. But we still have till midnight to post motto's. I will post at the exact strike of midnight in the UK so you all know. And then we can start a thread.

I think that without the mods permission first they'll close the thread down. james pickles: what did you ask them, if we could put up another thread or if they would judge? Stop people from posting at midnight, but we might have to wait to post another thread and start voting until a mod knows what we're doing and approves it.

I asked them if they could judge. Yeah I will post when it is midnight here. Triad was the only one who replied to me but she said she would check it out and see but she hasn't got back to me. Hmm. I dunno. I guess we will just have to wait, or any other suggestions.

Exactly, just keep it open for say a week or something. And then they can close it down. Surely they can just ignore it until then, it isn't exactly going to get on anybody's nerves so why close it?

Isn't a week a little too much? We gave five days for people to post their mottos, and only a few actually did. I think five days to vote will be long enough.

Five days works too, I just assumed that a lot more people will want to vote then post a motto. Not many people could probably think of one, but a lot of people might want a say in what the motto is going to be. I'm sure five days is more then enough though. Keep count of the days and close it after five. Do you want to put a PS after my posts after the new thread starts to let people know that they can vote now?

A separate thread was made for voting. It's in the lounge and is titled something like Gryffindor House Motto. It isn't that hard to find and you can vote there for one more day like james pickles said.

Yesterday was Harry Potter's birthday! I should have posted it yesterday, but I forgot.

I'm a very proud Gryffindor who was sorted a few days ago! Ah it feels so good to be with the winners, the brave , the strong and the famous ones! Haha! I voted for our motto too, i chose the latin one, i thought it was great. Oh, i have something to propose. Why don't we somehow organize competitions between the four houses? Wouldn't that be great?

Hmm, it might be great but it could cause arguments etc. Post it in the Suggestions part of the forum and see what the mods think, chances are they will not approve but it is worth a try, post it in there and see what they think. Also...I have a bit of bad news, I am staying at my Grandma's tonight and she doesn't have a computer...so I suggest that we stop the voting now. It is only four hours away from midnight? What do you think? We all know which one has one already, so if you want to end it now the latin one wins.

I don't think that the mods will approve of a competition between the houses because their job is to keep peace and make sure everyone follows the rules and a lot of people would get really competative, but it's a really cool idea! What would we do in the competition, like answer questions and stuff?

we could have the motto fade from latin into English. just so nonGryffindors could know what it means . . and to remind Gryffindors what it means, because i know it's not going to be long before i forget.

i suppose if people could handle a competition, we could have timed quizzes with answers only found in the books or something. but i don't think very many people could handle it without getting too competitive.

The fade-and-switch-languages is a very good idea!

Before you incorporate the text into a picture, I'm trying to find a Latinist that could check the grammar ... it would be so embarrassing if there's an error in everybody's signature!

What I'm thinking: the original pick with the lion -> Latin motto fade it -> English motto fade in -> back to the original with the lion. The background, I think, should be the same on all of the slides.

As for the competition.. Why not? I think we can manage a contest without the contestants getting "carried away". If nod, mods can easily delete the imapropriate messages and punish the authors.
Now, we only need to decide what the contest will be. I like the idea of having a "quiz"-type competition. But we will need to make sure that the answers cannot be easily found on the web. Or we can make it into a TreasureHunt/Quest-type of thing. The contestants will be required to have their house's name in their sig, so it would be easier to count the points. I believe Avada made some really nice sig pics that we could use. Just a thought..

I'm not sure about having a competion. It seems like the houses might fight, and then we would all get in trouble. I like the idea, but there are some people who do get carried away. If we were to have house competions, I like the treasure hunt thing that bluezz mentioned!

Spencer, it depends on the program you are using, but I believe in most cases you can correct the typing afterwards. So you can make the sig now, and if Bumblebee finds a mistake, we'll hust have to modify it a little.
