well i have just joined veritaserum ,,, i was never an active member of other hp fan sites but certainly it has grabbed my attention,,, so now i m placed in gryffindor and i m showing my presence in my house...

well coming to the questions ,, i must say tht after gryffindor ,, hufflepuff is best house ,,, this house contains those who are not picked by others ,, so we can assume tht at the time of sorting cermony both luna and cedric didn't show enuf courage required by gryffindor ,,, so they were sorted in hufflepuff ,,, the less brave and more trustworthy,,,
bluezz
Hmm.. I don't think the Sorting Hat can ever be wrong. If it put Cedric or Luna in a certain house, it is because they belonged there. We may not see the reason, because we do not know these characters all that well, but there is one, without a doubt.

Welcome to all the new Gryffindors! It's nice to see new faces! =)

Oh dear are we discussing the Sorting Hat again. I'm not gonna comment on the Sorting Hat one but I will back to the What we will use Veritaserum on. I would love to give it to Andrew (biological Dad), and just ask him all these questions.
HP_RULES!
I say that we need to stay away from the sorting hat as well. Stick to veritaserum or who would have been in Gryffindor. I don't think the sorting hat being right or wrong is the issue, it was just a fun question about who you think belongs in Gryffindor if it didn'tt exist. I have already made my peace on this matter so I wont say more, but I really don't think we should get into the sorting hat again.

Yeah, the Sorting Hat somehow always comes up in the discussions.. *sigh* =)

Anyway, your veritaserum victim.. That should be interesting. But are you sure you would truly want to hear what he has to say? From what I see, it seems you don't have a very friendly relationship with him. Correct me if I'm mistaken, of course. Hearing certain truthsfrom him may turn out to be traumatic. Sometimes it's better to be in the dark.
Feel free to ignore my ramblings wink.gif

Woh, Bluezz! What are you talking about? I know that I am not suppose to post one-liners so I will keep going. The sorting hat always does have a way of coming up and I don't think we'll ever finish with that topic, but we should try. I think that by now ecveryone has made peace with that topic, but that is just my opinion!
james pickles
Well bluezz, I don't really care what he has to say, the questions would be why does he lie to me, why does he put me down, why does he go away to Thailand on my birthday and Christmas. If you wanna know what he does to me bluezz PM me but I just want to use Veritaserum on him to clarify things and feel satisfied that I do truly know him now.

Hey guys!Just want to welcome naeem1986 to Gryffindor!Hope you enjoy it here, maybe you want to tell us who your favourite Gryffindor character is or something like that? happy.gif

Hey james...I am sorry to hear about your biological father, I know its a touchy subject, but I have to say that you have an immense amount of courage to want to know questions like that and to hear the answers...It seems only natural to want to know and I can understand your reasoning....I would want to give Veritaserum to my father as there are some things that I want to know about his reasoning... wink.gif

well, I tagree with most of you guys about the sorting hat issue and it may be a fun way to see what people think and all, but I figure it always ends up with us debating why this person was there and so biggrin.gif on....

Hey, sorry i started the topic sad.gif i was just starting to get tired of the veritaserum subject
james pickles
Yeah it is ok, it is just the Sorting Hat topic mostly brings up arguments and strong opinions, and constructive but agressive posts. It is weird so I think alot of people try laying off that topic. Also I get bored alot with the topics, one I have posted a few times I can't think of anything else so I just comment on other peoples posts; like if someone says, I would use Veritaserum on Snape. I would say, I might to that too, but I am not sure I would want to hear the truth though. Stuff like that. But if you can't think of anything then just don't post and just watch out till someone else posts a new topic...*Cough* Mostly bluezz *Cough*. But if everyone agrees I think we should change the topic too. Anyway, back to topic, you know when you read a book and the main character of characters ask a question to try and solve a magical mystery, and they don't answer, and you really want them to ask something and they don't. I would like to use veritaserum on them.
lozza-cm
if i was to use veritaserum on any harry potter charactor it would be dumbledore i would love to no the truth about snape and about other things that he knows! but if i was going to use it on someone out side the harry potter world it would be my bestfriend who i will re name jana, because i heard some interesting rumors about her ummm propositioning my boyfriend while i was over seas for two months and i have never really gotten to the truth about it!!!

Welcome Potter_Adict_713, i hope you have fun in here!!!

Veritaserum on any character? Ron, so that i could find out how he really feels about Hermione, and no, i don't think the Sorting Hat is ever wrong but it looks like we're going off that topic. NEW ONE

Any ideas? x
azkabanical
Hi folks. I guess I need to stay away from the Sorting Hat in this thread....Unfortunately, I'm not one for coming up with topics, just replying to them.
El Barto
Hey guys..how about these..but I'm not entirely sure if they've been debated here or not:

-What set Salazar apart from the others (Godric, Helga, and Rowena)?
-Why you guys are in Gryffindor...not necessarily from what you were told but perhaps what you think
-Who else in your family or which of your friends would be Gryffindor?
-What kind of detrimental affects happened when Sirius was placed in Gryffindor (concerning family, history, tradition, etc.), if any?
-maybe you guys can discuss you animai? I know...a bit wierd, but it might be interesting to let others know and why you think you were given that...as well as your other things (wand type, Marauder, wizard best friend, etc.)

corijp
Nice questions, Chris. wink.gif

Let's see... Well, I think we can look at both Salazaar Slytherin and Godric Gryffindor. Based upon what we do know about them, they look awfully familiar, don't they? Both are equally intelligent and skilled, but it seems they are different sides to the same coin. Much like, I daresay, some current characters.
But what sets them apart? I believe it's their ambitions. Both Gryffindor and Slytherin's are ambitious people. Proud, if you will. Though Gryffindor seems a bit more rightgeous and well, Slytherin is in favor of self a bit more.
As far as Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, both are very intelligent women who heartedly offered their skills to the bunch with a desire to teach the young. We did see (or at least we were told) the ladies got along well with Gryffindor. Slytherin became an outsider.
I'll leave this here as I'm curious to see what ideas and thoughts you all have.

Thanks Chris!
bluezz
So, what seperates Slytherin from the rest of the Hogwarts founders? What first comes to mind is his disliking of any wizards other that purebloods. He is not at all open to the evolution taking place in the magical world, with muggles being able to learn magic, etc. While this is very on-the-surface observation, I also agree with corijp. Salazar is using his knowledge and ability to benefit himself mostly, while Godric, Helga, and Rowena are all doing things for the greater good of others.

I really don't feel like analyzing myself or my family at the moment, so I'm going to hold my opinion on the other questions.

By the way, El Barto, thanks for coming up with so many topics! I have so many things to do before school starts on thursday; I wouldn't have been able to take my mind off of them long enough to think of any discussion ideas.

hey, several_sunlit_days welcome to gryffindor. on the founders on hoqwarts topic- i don't think that it was only salazar that set himseslf apart. i mean godric only want the bravest of the kids and rowena wanted only the smartest. so, helga was the only one that exepted all kinds of kids. i'm not saying that salazar if good or anying thing, but when i was re-reading the books the fact that they wanted certain things of kids (besides hegla) really annoyed me
MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours
I'd like to answer the question "Which friends or family members would be in Gryffindor?"

I don't think any of my family would be in this house, because my sister has quite a temper... Slytherin maybe? As for my brother, he'd probably be in any house other than Gryffindor, seeing as he's not exactly brave... far from.

My friends would be separated throughout all the houses, depending which friend it was.
I wonder, if all of us seem to be the only ones who think they'd be placed in Gryffindor, if it's just us thinking that or if we're just really set apart frome everyone else we know. cool.gif

I think J.K.Rowling did that to show us that you can never escape stereotypical and discriminating behaviour in any world, including the magical one. But that is what I think. It annoys me too, even Godric that you could just want someone for a couple of qualities and not what is inside their heart.

As for my family, they would choose what they though was best for them, I think my little sister would be a Hufflepuff, or a Gryffindor, I think my mum would be a Gryffindor because bravery comes in all sort of shape and sizes and she would do anything to protect me and my sister and that is bravery. I would like to be a Gryffindor over all the houses, but I wouldn't mind if I was in Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin.
Potter_Addict_713
I agree with both MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours and james pickles about how the House Founderers chose which kids should be in their house. Salazar always struk me as a man who wanted power and nothing more. He did want to but looked upon higher than the others, so my guess is he picked the people to be in his house, who he thought could overpower other normal wizards and had a lust for power. As for Godric and Ravenclaw, I think that they wer'nt as much for the whole we wan't people who are just like us. But it does confuse me about why they would wan't to pick spacific beings. Maybe it was that they thought people with similar personalities would get along better, and thats why they should be in the same house? Because they would be seeing more from the people in their own house then in other houses.

And to Chris, about the questions he posted up earlier, I love that one about Sirius. Lets see... I bet his family was furious, when they found out what house he was in. That's probably a reason leading up to why they erased his name from the family tree we see in book 5. But the fact that he ran away from home might help that fact as well. biggrin.gif As for history and tradition, I feel that the Black's thought that erasing his name would be as if Sirius never existed. So that their whole family still was in Salazar's House and that tradition was never broken, for now all the Black's are dead. Great question though!!

-Kristina

El Barto
D'oh...what I meant by 'what sets Slytherin apart' is what led him to be a sort of loner to the others. Why would he go out of his way to make a secret chamber? Does it say in the books, probably the second, that he left the others because of a fight? However, I do agree that each house has its own stereotypes, not just Slytherin.

For my own family...I think most of my family would be in Ravenclaw, except for my mother who would be in Gryffindor, one of my grandmother's would be in Slytherin with my father, and one of my sisters would be in Hufflepuff. My friends, outside of VTM of course, would also be dispersed among the houses, but most of them in Ravenclaw smile.gif

According to the Black Family Tree, Sirius' name was blasted off because he ran away. I can imagine his parent's constantly pestering him being a Gryffindor and praising Regulus for being in Slytherin. So, perhaps they disgusted with him, but still loved him...and only perhaps felt taken aback or shamed that he ran away from the 'Ancient and Most Noble House' and felt he finally didn't deserve be among them (along with Alphard who gave him money).
Amyrat151
I'm posting here again because it seemed that this thread moved to fast or that no one said things about the posts I left. So I'm here, pay attention to me! lol, that was fun, I'm kidding really.
So I'll answer all the questions.
What set Salazar apart from the others?
I think that at first he was decated to learning like the other three, but over time cared more about being right than teaching people. I think that ambision can be a wonderful thing, but not at the level he had.
Why you guys are in Gryffindor...not necessarily from what you were told but perhaps what you think?
I think that it's because I'm completly unafraid to be myself no matter where I am or what I'm doing, I have the nerve to tell the truth and I always encourge people to stand up for themselves.
Who else in your family or which of your friends would be Gryffindor?
Well, my Mom would probally be in Hufflepuff, and my sister could go there too, but she would probally be in Gryffindor too, along with my Dad. I can't think of anyone in my family who would be in Ravenclaw. It's not like we're a bunch of idiots, just that hard work is valued more than book smarts in my family.
What kind of detrimental affects happened when Sirius was placed in Gryffindor?
I think that his family was very disapointed, and began to neglect him even more than they probally did already, if Sirius was showing signs of not caring about blood at an early age.
maybe you guys can discuss you animai?
Haven't gotten it yet.
Spencer Potter

Well Salazar Slytherin was set apart by all the others because he wanted pure-bloods to be taught and get rid of the Muggle Borns, and I guess he was power hungry.

Well I think Im a Gryffindor because I am Brave and Loyal to my word, I dont make a promise that I cant keep.

Umm I dont think anyone in my family, My dad would be Slytherin, badboy I guess. Haha. My Sister would be a HufflePuff, My bro a Slytherin and my mom a Ravenclaw.

Umm well, Sirius was brave, and he proved it in OotP, he didnt want to sit at home and do nothing, and he would go to any limits to be with Harry.

A Dingo.. I dont know, I can be a bit rough and I have no clue really, Dont have a Maurauder but Id probly be Sirius or James. Wizard best friend Hemione because were really the same except Im not bossy. Wand type, no clue. Just because of my personality I guess.

Hello guys, it's long time I don't post dry.gif ...

Well, probably I'm in Gryffindor because sometimes I put myself in trouble and I've not fear to do something that could be dangerous ( even if when I think about what I've done, I realize that I'm a bit irresponsible mellow.gif ).
I suppose my father and my mother would be most likely in Gryffindor too, but I don't really know about my brother: sometimes he behaves like a Slytherin, but, in effect he's not so bad...perhaps he would be in Ravenclaw( he has more characteristics of it happy.gif than a Slytherin and is a hard worker)

What set Salazar apart from the others was his desire for power. The other house founders, although different, vowed to work togethers as equals. They accepted those that possessed the qualities that they valued, as did Slytherin, but they respected the traits that the other founders valued and let them accept who they wanted. Salazar wanted all the founders to only accept those who had the traits that he valued into the school, which was his leap towards obtaining power over the school.

I think that I am in Gryffindor because I am brave and loyal! I speak my mind and stand up for what is right!

I think that my best friend, Brittany, would be in Gryffindor with me. A couple of my friends would, but Brittany, and Lauren, are the first ones that come to mind because they are so loyal. As for my family, I don't think that anyone else would be in Gryffindor because we are all complete opposites. I don't think anyone in my family would end up in the same house as anyone else.

When Sirius was placed in Gryffindor, I think that was what really set him apart from his family. In Gryffindor he met James and was able to break away from his family and live with James and his family. It showed how different he was from the rest of the Black's and destroyed the tradition of all of them being sorted into Slytherin.

I don't have a Patronus because I run the quiz and I couldn't be objective, but my animagus was a bat. I don't really get it, I think it was just because I like the night and it was both in a secluded area and the big city. My wand type I have no idea why, but my maraduer was James. I guess it is because I like the lime light. Then my best friend was Harry, probably because I am so much like Ginny.
MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours
I was probably put in Gryffindor because I'm loyal towards my friends and family. I can be courageous at times... but for the sport I do you kind of have to be ready for anything! smile.gif
Potter_Addict_713
First of all, I like your signature MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours.

Anyways, about discussing my animal and all, I like my Animagus and patronus. They are both, like complete opposite, but, oh well. laugh.gif My animagus, an Okpai is like a dear, part zebra part like dear. Its hard to explain, maybe going onto google and searching it will help you out a little more. biggrin.gif Anyways, my patronus is a wolf and I LOVE it.

alkisti
You are discussing about Patronus and Animagus right? Well, i like mine and i believe they are opposite like potter_addict_713. My Animagus is phoenix, which is amazing as it is a beautiful creature and it has proved to be helpful many times. My Patronus is a cat, which is cool too as i love cats. I believe they are opposite because phoenix is a bird and cats tend to eat birds... LOL. blink.gif
james pickles
Well my animagus is a lion. I got chose the lion because in my opinion I am brave, I don't mean physically brave, I mean a different brave, like if someone was getting bullied at school, even though I wouldn't like to get involved in physical violence, I would be the first one to stand up and sit next to the person and say get lost now to the people, and if someone threatened me, I'd just open my arms and say, lay it on me. I mean, I don't know many people who would do that. Most of my friends go. No I'm sorry, don't hurt me. I don't like that. They feel intimidated and that is wrong for people to feel that by other people. Also because I like to sleep. And lions sleep 20 hours a day biggrin.gif I wish I could. And my patronus is a phoenix, I don't know why I got that, but it is my favourite animal.

Hello friend, welcome, make up chat topics with us and just have fun in our, well, family. Have fun here mate. happy.gif
MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours
Hi there!
(Potter_Addict_713: thanks biggrin.gif )

I am really satisfied with my Patronus and Animagus. I am a very serious competitive swimmer, and both of them are water animals! My Patrouns is an otter, and my animagus is a dolphin. They suit me perfectly happy.gif
Bumblebee
No... no... my broomstick is the best! It really flies! (have a look at my signature if you doubt it.)

Last weekend I used a different broomstick, but I still think that mine is best. It's just what I want, no more and no less. Sure there are broomsticks that can fly faster, carry bigger loads, or look fancier. But mine is perfect for the flying that I want to do.

Aaaah... I wish that my broomstick and I could go on a nice flying holiday right now.

MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours
Woah! That is a heavy-duty broomstick... Sadly, mine is only one that sweeps the dirt off the floor, although it is highly efficient.
The song by that title however, is simply splendid.
I'm just wondering who wold like to discuss the quidditch position they were assigned?
I received Keeper, which suits me fine! I think I'd be pretty good at it happy.gif
Arya
Quiddich position? Well..I'm a seeker!
It's simply wonderful, I like it! And then I'm a bit short ( well, you could say that I'm quite short happy.gif ) and quite slim ...
I think it's a perfect role for me...also because I'm not so strong to be a beater or a cheaser sleep.gif
HP_RULES!
I got seeker too! I am thrilled with what I got and I think it is perfect for me. Like Arya, I am not strong enough to be a chaser or a beater. I think that it would be so much fun to be a seeker, plus, it matches my personality pretty well.
hp_book_reader
i got beater, but then again my job is Internation Quidditch Chaser. but i would have to go with being a chaser, because i like to be right there were the action is!

and MyBroomStickIsBetterThanYours is right that is a GREAT song! smile.gif
MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours
Yes! Glad you've heard of them! happy.gif
I think Keeper suits me because, even thouh I'm a girl, my shoulders are kind of broad... what I mean is I've got muscle, but I'm not like... WOAH HUGE! So I'd be able to go from one hoop to the other.
lozza-cm
i got seeker, which suits me just fine because i am. .*shifty eyes* sneaky,...and plus i like seeker the best because the snich it my favorite ball...it's GOLD and nice when the other ones are ugly tongue.gif
alkisti
I am a BEATER! Am i the only one in here? i love it, i mean what can be better from throwing a black ball (how do you call it in english?) right against Malfoy's head??? biggrin.gif
I am a girl, so i guess i am an exception for the beater-ing position!
Ah... i wish Quidditch was real, i would really like to crack some heads when i'm angry...
twisted.gif Hehehe!
MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours
I've got another question for you guys...
If you could change one of the things that you've been given (in "The Sorting") what would it be, and why?

Personally, I wouldn't change anything, but I was wondering if anybody else thought that they'd been matched up perfectly happy.gif
HP_RULES!
The only thing I would change is my animagus because I am not particularly fond of bats. The flying would be fun and I like the night life, but bats aren't exactly on my top ten list for favorite animal. When I was a kid my best friend got attacked my a bat and she had to get all these painful shots and every since then I haven't liked them much. They are cute and they match me well, I just don't like them. Good question! happy.gif
Lizzy_Radcliffe
Hey all! biggrin.gif

i haven't been here for a while, but I'm a beater, too, which is awesome, because I get to release my anger the safer way. But if I could change something about myself, it would be....hmmm huh.gif ...actually, I don't really have anything I'd want to change. I'm pretty happy with what I've got.

I agree with you, alkisti, if Quidditch were real, I would be in heaven rolleyes.gif .

OOh, I know this is random, but my friends and I can actually make fire turn green, and we pretend to be tossing Flue Powder in the fire. All it is is Copper Sulfate, and It turns the fire that lovely emerald green. We found this out in science one day.

Sorry for that last bit, I know it was off-topic, but you have to admit, it's pretty cool to know how to turn fire green.
MyBroomstickIsBetterThanYours
WOAH! That's awesome!! Definately going to try that copper sulfate in the fire thing one day. It's weird that no one ever realised this before. blink.gif
alkisti
I think I would change my ghost, i am Moaning Myrtle dry.gif But i guess it is kind of special, you know, she is mentioned in several books and she died in a "cool" way -if it is cool dying by just a look... I really liike the rest of my magical characteristics. I would be Harry -though i'm a girl mellow.gif - , my boyfriend would be teenage James, my best friend would be Hermione... Ah and of course, i would go at Hogwarts and be in Gryffinfdor!!! (etc etc...)
