I'm not sure if or where the books state Marietta is a Ravenclaw. However, Wikipedia.com has her listed as a Ravenclaw. I'm not sure if the info came from the books or from JKR herself. Either way, she is a Ravenclaw.

Anyways, wasn't it stated somewhere that the staircase system in Hogwarts was designed by Ravenclaw? If so, could there be something to the stairs? Like one of the steps that your leg falls through? Would it be too crazy of an idea for LV to place a horcrux inside one of these sinking steps? JKR doesn't seem to put things in the book for no reason. Maybe this is her purpose for those steps.
After the Burial
I do not remember anything about the stairs being linked to Ravenclaw. But that would be like JK. She threw that into the very first book and has not mentioned it since. That would be spooky foreshadowing indeed if a horcrux was hidden through the stairs, especially when everyone avoids those trick stairs.

I wonder about it though. Dumbledore was at Hogwarts longer than Riddle. I would bet that he would have noticed if a regular stair suddenly became a trick stair. I think he would investigate said stair and find whatever changed it.

If Voldemort did put it in a trick stair, it would have had to have been in an pre-existing trick stair. I am not sure he would want to rely on another's person's magic at all.
LittleRed7771
Okay, I had to look it up on wikipedia.com, but I found it. Here is a section about the stairs and Ravenclaw:

"Ravenclaw devised the ever-changing floor plans and moving staircases in Hogwarts Castle."

If you want to look at it yourselves, here is the link. biggrin.gif

Anyways, I did mean one of the existing trick stairs; not one created by LV. Seeing as how Ravenclaw developed the staircases, I would think she must have also been the one to provide the trick stairs. LV could have been "desperate" to find something in connection to Ravenclaw and maybe this was the only thing he could find or think of.
bookworm_1918
Hmm, trick step! Awesome idea! I think Voldemort still might've been able to put it in a trick stair, and yes, I don't remember reading about it, but since Rowena invented the staircase idea, maybe Voldemort knew that and trusted the magic of a Hogwarts founder or something like that.

Wikipedia.com! I should look for Harry Potter stuff there sometimes. Everyone is getting stuff from there! Gosh! I wish we knew more about Ravenclaw.

By the way, I'm going to check out that fanfic, Harry's Last Task. Well, i gotta go, and I'll have to catch up because I'll be away for a week, but maybe you guy's'll have some new ideas! laugh.gif

padfootx3
Okay, i've got some catching up to do.

About wikipedia and ravenclaw: Wikipedia is a site in which anyone could put anything they want on it. Most people would probably wanna put true stuff, but you never know. That's why i don't entirely trust wikipedia about stuff on Ravenclaw.

The trick stair idea: It is a very good idea, and i'm impressed with whoever came up with it (i think it was lil' red, but i'm not sure.) Anyway, supposing that the whole "Ravenclaw-stair-thing" is true, i'd say its a pretty good possibility that its in there. But as After the Burial said, do you think Voldemort would rely on something that was not his. So, i've got that debate going on in my head.
After the Burial
But Wikipedia does have a system of moderators that check information to make certain that it is accurate. Still, I doubt that every Wikipedia moderator is as well-versed in Harry Potter as the majority of us VTM addicts. I personally do not trust Wikipedia for things like that. They simply do not state where they get their information.

QUOTE
LV could have been "desperate" to find something in connection to Ravenclaw and maybe this was the only thing he could find or think of.

Voldemort does not strike me as the desperate type. He already has multiple horcruxes. I doubt he would panic if he could not find an object of Ravenclaw's or Gryffindor's. As far as Voldemort is concerned, he is practically immortal. Why would he need to rush his search for a Ravenclaw object? If he knew that he could not get one, he would (I am trusting Dumbledore) change his plan of attack and choose something different.
LittleRed7771
You're right. Unless JKR says it herself, we don't know for absolute fact. I wish I could remember where I heard it originally, though.

Anyways, and I didn't mean desperate in the literal sense. That's why I put the quotes around it. I couldn't think of the exact word I was looking for. Maybe I should have used "desired". Might have made a better fit. LV's desire to have something connected to Ravenclaw may have left him with no other choice than to use the staircase system (if she is actually the one to design them).

Anyways, maybe another change of subject , sort of, is needed before we stray off in the wrong direction! wink.gif Has anyone else noticed that the only founder JKR has not named wizard of the month is Ravenclaw? She has named the other three with an additional picture along with the suspected horcruxes for each. Slytherin-locket; Hufflepuff-cup; Gryffindor-sword. Coincidence that she hasn't shown Ravenclaw? I don't think so. She would then possibly be showing us Ravenclaw's possible horcrux. Thoughts anyone?
padfootx3
Good point Littlered. I think that she did do that on purpose, because nobody knows for sure what the Ravenclaw horcrux is, though there are rumors that it is her tiara. But, i don't think that we can elaborate on this very much to have "heated" discussions on it. Does anybody have a great debate question?
alohomora
yeah... i agree with what LittleRed7771 said. We dont know for certain unless JK Rowling confirms it herself. Wikipedia isnt very accurate, seeing as people update and change it. I did hear a rumor that the Ravenclaw horcrux was a tiara, but i'm not sure about that. Oh, and by the way... Maybe a good ravenclaw question would be why Cho is in Ravenclaw. (My friend and I had this discussion when i said that Cho was smart. She said that Cho has never shown any Hermione qualities, school wise. She says that because Cho is in Ravenclaw, you just assume that she is smart. What do you think?
Beater
why Cho is a Ravenclaw ?
I think being clever doesn't show on your face
and I also think that what was mentioned about her isn't enough to judge her intellectual ability

me as an example
usually people thinks I can't decide anything , or can't have opinions of my own just because I like to be the last one to talk

I mean you won't really know if this person is intelligent or not ,unless you know how he/she thinks
and I don't think what was mentioned about her gave the full profile about her personality
workaholic_1231
About Cho, I don't hide my distaste for her... but I also don't deny her being a Ravenclaw. We don't really know enough about her intellectuality to judge where she belongs.

Alright my fellow Ravenclaws... I have some questions:

If there was a stereo that played throughout the common room... what type of music do you imagine would be played? You can get as specific as stating particular artists, or you could just state genres. Why?

Say there was something that resided in each common room that reflected on the house and those who belong in it. What do you think the 'something' would be for Ravenclaw? The 'something' can be a small object or something larger.... use your imagination. tongue.gif

Hope those are good! I'll answer after some more feedback!
LittleRed7771
Well, Ashley, I think you asked some pretty tough questions. I didn't want to be the first one to respond because I wanted to get some ideas from other people. Seeing as how no one has answered yet, I guess I'll be the first. However, mine probably won't be very creative. I don't have much of an imagination without a little guidance. Apparently, I was absent the day God handed out creativity! tongue.gif

If there was a stereo that played throughout the common room... what type of music do you imagine would be played? You can get as specific as stating particular artists, or you could just state genres. Why?

More than likely they would play some sort of wizard band from the wizard wireless radio. Something like the band that played at the Yule Ball. However, if I was given the choice of music, I'd say something country just because I like country music. That's just not a very "magical" answer, though. I think it would be fun to take country music dancing and add a little wizard twist to it!

Say there was something that resided in each common room that reflected on the house and those who belong in it. What do you think the 'something' would be for Ravenclaw? The 'something' can be a small object or something larger.... use your imagination.

Use my imagination, huh? Well, like I said, I don't really have one. dry.gif Let's see...well, I guess I'd think something along the lines of an eagle since that is the Ravenclaw animal. Either a stuffed one, or a medallion of one, or some tapestry with a beautiful country side and eagles flying around. However, since Ravenclaw is known for its wit, intelligence, and knowledge, maybe something like a complicated puzzle. For example, a rubik's cube or those mind trick puzzles where there is only one way to solve them.

Okay, now that I have made my poor excuse of a guess, it's everyone else's turn to come in and out-do me! biggrin.gif

Laura, I can not even begin to explain how hard I just started laughing at this. That has to be the funniest thing I've ever read! Your answers were great!! Thanks for starting them off too!

If there was a stereo that played throughout the common room... what type of music do you imagine would be played? You can get as specific as stating particular artists, or you could just state genres. Why?

I would like to say classical because when I sit and study, that's what I listen to... however I can't imagine most of the students sharing the same interest as myself. Therefore, I think I'm going to have to say that I see Ravenclaw students enjoying some light or older rock to listen to while hanging around the common room.

At the moment I'm blank on the second question, but maybe more feedback will spark my imagination!

LittleRed7771
Okay, seeing as how we aren't getting much traffic lately, maybe I'll try asking a new question. As it picks back up, others can go back and answer your questions as well, Ashley. biggrin.gif Hope you don't mind. ermm.gif

Explain why you belong in Ravenclaw and give an example of an incident you had that would have made Rowena Ravenclaw proud.
Pixymajik
If there was a stereo that played throughout the common room... what type of music do you imagine would be played? You can get as specific as stating particular artists, or you could just state genres. Why?

I'm actually thinking something like scores. You know, from movies. I have a couple of scores CDs that I've made up of my favourite movies and I find them very relaxing and also mind-provoking. I can see it being something of an intellectual stimulation to Ravenclaws without becoming mind-dulling

Say there was something that resided in each common room that reflected on the house and those who belong in it. What do you think the 'something' would be for Ravenclaw? The 'something' can be a small object or something larger.... use your imagination. tongue.gif

This is a hard one. I always pictured the Ravenclaw common room as having its own mini-library. Not to the extent that they never had to visit the actual library, but more a place where they could sit and read or do the sudoku in a calming space. But I saw it as being separate from the house common rooms, so not so much something that 'resided in each common room'. Maybe some kind of daily puzzle or something that gets put up each day. Nothing big, just something to get those challenging minds working.

Explain why you belong in Ravenclaw and give an example of an incident you had that would have made Rowena Ravenclaw proud.

I believe that I am more Ravenclaw than anything else because I love to be intellectually challenged. I love having a problem to solve and I enjoy learning about things. I am quick-witted and can argue with the best of them when it's an attack-of-the-tongues. I remember what is said for long times and can manipulate and turn it around to go back to prove their argument wrong. However an incident that I think would have made Rowena Ravenclaw proud was a debate that I was involved with within my University several years ago. The other team was arguing a point and then contridicted themselves. I stood up, point it out and then proceeded to rip apart their argument. They had nothing after that rolleyes.gif

Good questions guys smile.gif
After the Burial
If there was a stereo that played throughout the common room... what type of music do you imagine would be played? You can get as specific as stating particular artists, or you could just state genres. Why?

I can't think of any music. No matter how similar people are, their tastes in music can vary widely. There would be no genre of music that is pleasing to all 70 odd Ravenclaws. The only way the stereo would work is if it was magically enchanted to play a different tune for each person (much like Amortentia has a different smell for each person).

Say there was something that resided in each common room that reflected on the house and those who belong in it. What do you think the 'something' would be for Ravenclaw?]The 'something' can be a small object or something larger.... use your imagination.

I envision several working stations. I don't mean desks or anything like that. There would be, tucked into corners and whatnot, several places where a person or group of people could study and work in comfort. Studying can be fun, but there needs to be something to break up the monotony once in a while when you need it.

Explain why you belong in Ravenclaw and give an example of an incident you had that would have made Rowena Ravenclaw proud.

Although I am technically a Gryffindor (the same way that Hermione is technically a Gryffindor), I am a Ravenclaw because I can sit down and work on impossible problems for several hours and not get bored (especially when I solve it).

Last year, in my Statistics class, we were given the challenge of prooving a theorem (I was a math major, by the way). When I finished the proof, it was four pages long and filled with copious amounts of Calculus, Trigonometry and Algebraic manipulation. Well, it took me a bit over two and a half hours to get it. I learned the next day that almost every other person in the class worked on it together for over six hours before they got it.
alohomora
If there was a stereo that played throughout the common room... what type of music do you imagine would be played? You can get as specific as stating particular artists, or you could just state genres. Why?

Ummm... I have no idea... I dont think you can specify which music is played, cause everyone has different taste.

Maybe something like a small library of some sort? I dont know...

Explain why you belong in Ravenclaw and give an example of an incident you had that would have made Rowena Ravenclaw proud.

Why do I belong in Ravenclaw? ummm... I'm smart? (not meaning to brag or anything) An incident that would have made Rowena proud? Ummm... I was one of the best students in the Geography Bee and I won the spelling award as well as a Literrature award. Sorry, I didnt know what would be a better event

biggrin.gif No no! More questions are always great! I think mine were a little too... out there anyway. wacko.gif I'm still thinking on how to answer yours and my last one!

*thinks for twenty minutes*

Alright...

Say there was something that resided in each common room that reflected on the house and those who belong in it. What do you think the 'something' would be for Ravenclaw?]The 'something' can be a small object or something larger.... use your imagination.

Alright for this one I'm going to have to agree on something to do with books. I picture a large shelf that's built into the wall. The shelf contains books that challenge the mind. So when the students are just sitting in the common room taking a break, they can grab a book and play a nice, fun, challenging brain twister.

Explain why you belong in Ravenclaw and give an example of an incident you had that would have made Rowena Ravenclaw proud.

I believe it's almost solely my intelligent and my drive to keep pushing that makes me a Ravenclaw. I've always had this strong 'drive' that motivates me to do my best in everything I do. That's due large part to being raised and told that what's not done perfect is trash. (nice family, eh? rolleyes.gif ) So in light of that, I've always worked hard on things I had to do so they were no less than my best. I'm also going to agree with Pixymajik's answer about loving to be challenged. That just makes me work even harder.

As for the moment where I would make Rowena Proud.... *thinks for another twenty minutes*....
Well all throughout my years of schooling, I've been in the gifted program. Along with that comes a lot of accomplishments when I got into high school. I've also been chosen for several other programs such as Peer Leaders, VIPs (honors program), Pep Club, etc. I would think that seeing how hard I've worked towards all of that would make her proud enough.
padfootx3
Sorry, i haven't been here in ages!! I was on vaca, so i'm just going to do the current questions....

Say there was something that resided in each common room that reflected on the house and those who belong in it. What do you think the 'something' would be for Ravenclaw?]The 'something' can be a small object or something larger.... use your imagination.

Okay, well, when i think of Ravenclaw, i think of intelligence. When i think of intelligence i think of books, so i'd have to say something to do with the library. I'm sorry it wasn't very original. sad.gif Hmm, or maybe something to do with owls because owls are known as like "smart" creatures. Wait a minute... actually i change my mind, i think that Fawkes is really smart, so maybe they'd have pheonixes around the room, or a Giant Map of Pheonix, Arizona....

Explain why you belong in Ravenclaw and give an example of an incident you had that would have made Rowena Ravenclaw proud.
I am pretty sure the reason we are all in Ravenclaw is because we are pretty wise. As the Sorting hat said " Said Ravenclaw 'We'll teach those whose Intelligence is surest." So we're all here because our intelligence is very reliable, or so that's how i interpreted it.
LittleRed7771
Explain why you belong in Ravenclaw and give an example of an incident you had that would have made Rowena Ravenclaw proud.

Well, I guess it's time to answer my own question. I've always had a knack for math and english (not that you can tell in my posts tongue.gif ). Back when I was in school, I hardly ever studied for anything yet I always seemed to make A's. Especially in those two particular subjects. I remember one year I had straight 100's on my report cards in math for the year. In my senior year of high school, we had a research paper that was worth 3 separate grades for different aspects of the paper. While most everyone else failed at least one section of the 3, I was one of two people who passed all three sections.

But let's see, how about something a little more recent...Well, I've been trying to get my college education for the past few years. This past term, I was signed up for 3 online classes. I finished all three classes in two weeks leaving me the rest of the 3 1/2 months free. When I know that I have things to do, it drives me crazy until I complete them. I couldn't rest until those classes were done. biggrin.gif

If there was a stereo that played throughout the common room... what type of music do you imagine would be played? You can get as specific as stating particular artists, or you could just state genres. Why?

Well, not punk or rock music or things like that. It would probably be peaceful and quiet so that people can study there.

Say there was something that resided in each common room that reflected on the house and those who belong in it. What do you think the 'something' would be for Ravenclaw?]The 'something' can be a small object or something larger.... use your imagination.

Hmm. Well maybe an magical book that has all the answers in the world!!! Muahaha! Yeah, anyway, because we're best known for being clever, so I think that would work.

Explain why you belong in Ravenclaw and give an example of an incident you had that would have made Rowena Ravenclaw proud.

I belong in Ravenclaw because... I really like to learn new things. I always try new things whenever I can, and I'm very curious. Apparently, I am also usually in the higher-level part of the class, and I'm in advanced math. I also usually do pretty well on writing assignments. An incident? Um... I don't win math contests or spelling bees anything (hey, that was only because I forgot how to spell "phoenix" on the state capitals quiz biggrin.gif), but let me see... Oh yeah, in math, at first I was really stuck on factoring and I had no idea what was going on, but then I just looked at it for a while and figured out how it worked!! Yay! Wow, that sounds really lame doesn't it? Oh well...
wait_siriusly411
first off, i just want to introduce myself to the ravenclaw house...if you didnt already notice, im wait_siriusly411..... i registered at this site a few months ago, ive just never really posted a lot under the house thread, but anyway, on with the questions, shall we?

If there was a stereo that played throughout the common room... what type of music do you imagine would be played? You can get as specific as stating particular artists, or you could just state genres. Why?

Personally, I would play rock music with some other stuff mixed in every once on a while, but thats just if I were there. Really, it just depends on the people who are there everyone's tastes vary.

Say there was something that resided in each common room that reflected on the house and those who belong in it. What do you think the 'something' would be for Ravenclaw?]The 'something' can be a small object or something larger.... use your imagination.

I would imagine that the Ravenclaw common room has an entire library, dedicated not only to school and other workbooks, but also fiction books that are just for fun. I can see every inch of spare wall taken up by bookshelves. smile.gif

Explain why you belong in Ravenclaw and give an example of an incident you had that would have made Rowena Ravenclaw proud.

I think I belong in Ravenclaw because of my intelligence (though being truthful Gryffindor is a very very close second). I'm also very curious and inquisitive and I love to learn. An example of this is me teaching myself two other languages over the summer.....Spanish and Japanese if anyones wondering. I got pretty far with Spanish because my family helped me a lot, not so far with Japanese, though.
DoxyPhoenix
"Wit beyond measure is a mans greatest Treasure" Luna Lovegood, Ootp.

I believe Ravenclaws are not just those who possess great booksmarts. Take Luna Lovegood for instance, if she was booksmart (by that I mean other than "the Quibbler") she would understand that Crumple Horned Snorkacks don't exist. Another example, coming from the other side, is Hermione. Why was she not chosen for Ravenclaw when she is top of the year? Or why wasn't Lupin or Dumbledore? All Gryffindors, all booksmart.

Ravenclaw are also said to be "Fair", as in beautiful, as it was said that Rowena Ravenclaw herself was beautiful. They are said to have great success with relationships, but I do not think that is necesserily true. Cho did'nt have much success with Harry and her relationship ended tragically with Cedric... Just goes to show...
LittleRed7771
I think it depends on what your dominant character trait is. With Hermione, yes she is book smart, but maybe the qualities she possesses that Gryffindor requires out-weighs Ravenclaw's qualities. Same with DD and Lupin. They may be intelligent, but their cunning and bravery are stronger qualities. I believe that the people who were chosen for Ravenclaw had their strongest qualities in booksmart and intelligence. They out-weighed the other houses traits.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that most students possess traits from multiple houses. It's just the trait that is the strongest in a person that determines which house they will be in.

I'm not sure if I am explaining myself correctly. If I'm completely confusing everyone, please let me know. biggrin.gif

students have to posses traits from multiple houses....they cant all be completely one house...i agree that theyre sorted by the strongest of their traits. i also agree that ravenclaws arent only booksmart..luna is a great example...she gets her schoolwork done alright, but she is really wise about the world, too...theres more than one kind of intelligent

and dont worry, LittleRead7771...you dont sound all that confusing:)

I took a very different meaning to "Fair." I thought it meant just. They do not follow the strict letter of the law, but judge whether or not something was fair and just. I feel that the founders would have never relied on physical attributes to sort a person into a house (even though Harry thought all Slytherins looked unpleasant).

Ok back to the current discussion...

I agree with After the Burial about the meaning of fair in this situation. I would never think that a house would be based off of appearances. If that were so, the crisis with pure blood almost wouldn't matter if you really think about it.
LittleRed7771
I too agree with After the Burial and Ashley. I think the "fair" used to describe Rowena Ravenclaw has to do with being honest and true, not beauty. But, even if the "fair" was meant to describe her looks, I don't think it would be used as a requirement to get into Ravenclaw. Looks have nothing to do with intelligence and wit.

Oh, and don't want to forget, Welcome to Ravenclaw wait_siriusly411. Pull up a seat and make yourself comfortable. biggrin.gif
bookworm_1918
Hey everybody! Welcome, wait_seriusly441!

Well, I got back from vacation to find that I can't get to Internet, our modem is dead, so now I'm reading like two pages of posts, with four questions to answer. Here I go!

why is Cho in Ravenclaw? (this is an old question)

I think Cho is in Ravenclaw because even though she's definitely not a Hermione-know-it-all (I mean that in a good way), I think she can be clever and I wouldn't call her brave, really(as in Gryffindor), or power-hungry and ambitious (Slytherin, in a good way), or well, not really a Cedric-type person (Hufflepuff), so I think she's then in Ravenclaw.

Ravenclaw music

Ummm. . I agree with whoever said that it would depend on tastes. In fact, usually I like a little faster songs but when I was writing a dark story I put on some sad, moody music. So whoever said that, i agree!

Object that resides in Ravenclaw common room

Umm, I agree with the person who said(sorry, I'm not really keeping track of who said what, might've been littlered) that it might be a puzzle like rubix cube or something, or whoever said a little puzzle posted every day, i like those ideas! biggrin.gif

Why I'm in Ravenclaw

I'm not sure, really. I guess I'm clever, which I believe I am, smart, which I also think i am, and well, fair, whether it means pretty or just, I'd like to think I'm both laugh.gif , but I dont'know if I ever did anything that would make Rowena ravenclaw proud. i probably have someway or another, but I can't remember working on something for hours or anything, umm, so I'm not sure. Sorry!

Okay, so I'm trying to think of this new questions that'll make more people write:

*thinks for twenty minutes*,
like workaholic did! Or say something like,

*runs to grab harry potterand the _____(insert book name)*
something like that. Nothing's coming to mind right now but I'll keep thinking!

rolleyes.gif Not surprised. rolleyes.gif

If there was one job (magical or otherwise) that, in your opinon, suited Ravenclaw House specifically, what would it be and why?

I told you this was a great question and that you should ask it, and I see you listened! Well let's see... I'm going to split my answer. One for nonmagical job and one for magical job.

I associate a lawyer with being a Ravenclaw for the nonmagical job.

As for magical... I can't think of a precise occupation, however, I would imagine it would be something of the utmost importance. I'm sure with more answers I can be swayed into one job or another.
LittleRed7771
If there was one job (magical or otherwise) that, in your opinon, suited Ravenclaw House specifically, what would it be and why?

Well, I like Ashley's answer of lawyer for the nonmagical job. You have to have a lot of intelligence to get into the judicial system. Maybe even work their way up to judge and beyond.

As far as a magical job, how about a Healer. Either that or a job at the Ministry either in the Wizengamot or working their way up to MoM.
wait_siriusly411
If there was one job (magical or otherwise) that, in your opinon, suited Ravenclaw House specifically, what would it be and why?

The job I relate to Raveclaws is either a Healer in the magical world (like LittleRed), or one of those world-renowned doctors in the non-magical world...It takes a lot of patience to study medicine and a lot of working hard and studying, just like Ravenclaws are famous for...and they would get to be world renowned because they would never stop taking on harder medical cases
alohomora
If there was one job (magical or otherwise) that, in your opinon, suited Ravenclaw House specifically, what would it be and why?

ummm... In the Wizarding world, a good job would be a healer, like most of you said. Maybe in the wizarding world a good job would be a doctor, lawyer....or.... rocket scientist tongue.gif
After the Burial
Well, more than anything, Ravenclaws are typically intellectuals. I consider an intellectual person to be very analytical. Being able to examine a set of circumstances critically is a part of my image of Raveclaw.

Thus, I am looking for a detail-oriented job that also requires a level of critical intelligence. Too many people said Healer (I thought of Hugh Laurie as House), so I will avoid that. Librarian comes to mind, although it is not perfectly suited. I suppose research or development is suited. In the wizarding world, they would be the the Unspeakables or someone like Luna's father...always looking into the unknown. Okay, I have another question. It could lead to a pretty broad range of answers, but I'm just curious as to what your theories are.

JKR said that Ravenclaw will have its day, and only DH is left so it will have to be then. What do you think "Ravenclaw's day" will be? As in what do you think will happen to make Ravenclaw's stand out?

Hummmm... That's a good question. Maybe Luna will do something really important... Or maybe Flitwick will be helpful in some way. Or maybe the Horcrux that is something of Ravenclaw's will have an important role. There are just to many possiblities for what that could mean. But go Ravenclaw!!

Laura, what is it with you and these difficult question? tongue.gif Keep them coming!

I can see Ravenclaw's day being something where either a person from Ravenclaw or an object that belongs to the house will make itself prominent. As for precise detail, I'm clueless. I don't think any of us will really be able to predict further until we read. At least we only have to wait 5 more days!!! Yay! biggrin.gif

ooh that's a tough one! I really think it is to do with the search for the horcruxes and perhaps the item belonging to ravenclaw will be the last one or even the most dangerous/difficult that has to be found before LV can be defeated?

But then again looking at the role of characters..well Luna is the only one who really stands out for me? i mean she has already proved herself loyal when it came to facing the Death Eaters at the MoM so perhaps she will step forward once again in DH, and even sacrifice herself?

oooooh or maybe its got something to do with her and harry and the veil, i mean she could hear the voices too...gosh there are so many possibilities, this might get complicated!

sorry if it seems im just talking nonsence, il shush now! shutup.gif

Well i agree with everybody on the fact that this question is way hard. I am debating between whether it will mean a person within Ravenclaw will do something or whether it has something to do with Ravenclaw herself, or maybe her horcrux (if she has one).
If it is a person, I hope Luna Lovegood is the person that makes ravenclaw have "it's day". She is so funny, and my favorite Ravenclaw. Also, she got to be a really good witch because she came to Harry and Neville in the department of mysteries almost completely unscathed. Or maybe moaning Myrtle will have something important to contribute to DH...

If it is about Ravenclaw herself, i hope we find out a little bit more about her. A lot of people say her horcrux would be her tiara, but if it is i'd like to know some history about that. Also, people have related her to the moving stairs, maybe well find out there's more to staircases that steps (with the occasional vanishing step)...

If there was one job (magical or otherwise) that, in your opinon, suited Ravenclaw House specifically, what would it be and why?
I don't know why, but i picture Ravenclaws with important wizarding/witching positions, probably because of their brains. But i think ravenclaw would be Unspeakables in the department of mysteries. If i had to choose another profession though, i'd choose the wizengamot. They should be smart enough to determine the guilty from the innocent.

A nonmagical job, i could see them being college professors. You'd have to be smart to teach college right?

Maybe it will have to do with Ravenclaw's Horcrux.....maybe one of the students (I could see it being Luna, since she's a well known Ravenclaw, with nothing much known about her) will be the heir and will help to find the object that houses a piece of Voldemort's soul.

Or it could be that during the war, some Ravenclaws help out in a grand sort of way.

Other than that, I have no idea.....this is the best I could come up with... smile.gif

Okay, time to answer my own.

JKR said that Ravenclaw will have its day, and only DH is left so it will have to be then. What do you think "Ravenclaw's day" will be? As in what do you think will happen to make Ravenclaw's stand out?

I perceive this statement to mean that Ravenclaw will do something heroic or important. Seeing as how RR herself is gone, it must be a student; most likely Luna. Having an object that once belonged to Ravenclaw being a horcrux doesn't really seem to fit with the whole Ravenclaw's day thing, at least not to me anyways. I think it's possible that Luna will sacrifice herself to save Harry thus fulfilling the "heroic" idea.

Or maybe that something that once belonged to Ravenclaw will somehow aid Harry in his quest to defeat LV. I could see that if this happened, it could be considered important, but would it be enough to fit the whole Ravenclaw's day JKR mentioned?

I'm going to stick with the idea of Luna doing something heroic, hopefully without her dying although I fear it may happen, as being what JKR was talking about.

I really like that idea of something or RR aiding Harry in some way. I would never have thought of that. As for it not fulfilling the whole "Ravenclaw's Day" thing, i don't think she meant that there would be a day for Ravenclaw. She probably meant that Ravenclaw or something do with her would make people think more highly of Ravenclaw.

Wow!!! I have missed a lot. Yes I have the canary creams and some puking pastilles and other Weasly'e Weezes candies. I would love some Droobles and so Berties (but not the nasty ones wink.gif). I just bought them so they are not stale. Anybody still have stuff to trade?

As far as a job for Ravenclaw people? The obvious comes to mind: teachers/professors and researchers.

For Ravenclaw's day? That is tough. I think that there will be something very important revealed - whether it be the horcruxes or something more - and Luna. I think she and Neville will play more than passing roles in the last book.

Hufflepuff had Cedric, I just hope that doesn't mean Luna will die too....

Cris
LittleRed7771
Cris!! hug.gif Long time no "see"! Yes, you have missed quite a bit lately. Personally, I'm all out of snacks. My 2 y.o. got ahold of the canary creams...what a mess. blink.gif Feathers everywhere! It wasn't a pretty site. I'm still finding feathers throughout the house. He seemed to enjoy himself running around poofing into a canary only to molt and do it again. Oh well, boys will be boys! biggrin.gif

Anyways, is far as Luna, it doesn't look to good for her. From what JKR was saying, a lot of people are going to die. I'd be surprised if half of the main to semi-main characters survive DH. But, Luna did get through the Ministry with only minor wounds. That might be a good sign that she will get through DH as well. I'll keep my fingers crossed. At least we only have a few days left to find out!
thatsProfessortoyou
Thanks for the welcome back, I feel the love!!! biggrin.gif

Yeah, the two mantras I have been quoting "two will die, one from the good side, one from the bad" and "the last work of the last book will be 'scar'" are both gone now. sad.gif

Well, only 4 day left. I think they have charged my account for the book!!! I can't wait.

My husband and I are still at odds over who will read the book first. I wish we could get two. But it comes down to I want to read it first. I don't want him constantly saying 'where are you? has so-and-so done so-and-such yet?' It will drive me mad. I was going to read it to the family but my two older boys will not be home until the 27th and 29th so I will not wait that long.....

I wonder about the Grey Lady being Rowena. Could JKR have decided to let the movie makers put her in from the very beginning because she will be important later? For that matter, the books were not finished, could the movies have influenced her a little?

Cris
padfootx3
That is very interesting thatsprofessortoyou (the last paragraph)... I never thought about how the movies could have influenced JKR. I just always thought they just used their creative license to tweak a few things, but those few things could have made JKR put more consideration in the things she left out. Like the first mention of the Grey Lady is in the 6th book and she's just passing through, but maybe in the 7th book she actually do something that matters...
LittleRed7771
I agree with padfootx3. That is an interesting idea about the Grey Lady. I wonder if JKR left out the Ravenclaw house ghost identity until DH for a reason? If it is the Grey Lady, could she be of great importance in DH? Maybe she will end up being a link to something that Harry and co. will need in connection to his quest to defeat LV. Or maybe she will know the location of something at Hogwarts that Harry will have to get to. Like RR's office from when she was there, or the founders' grave site if it is at Hogwarts, or even a horcrux of LV's.

It can't be a coincidence that we know all of the house ghosts for the houses except Ravenclaw. There must be something to it. At least we only have a few more days to find out! biggrin.gif
padfootx3
Okay i have another question. It's not really a discussion question, i mean, well, i could be if there isn't a definite answer. Well here goes. A lot of people say that RR's tiara could be a horcrux, but is there any proof that she had a tiara. And anyway if there is (i'm not sure if this was mentioned before but) is it the one in the Room of Requirements?
thatsProfessortoyou
was it here or someplace else I brought up the house elves?

The RoR is very interesting to me. I think the house elves, wether they live for as long as a thousand years or not, have hidden some important things there. JKR has mentioned a few things that were there and we all know that things she mentions, seemingly in passing, show up as objects of import (the necklace, the hand and the cabinet in the dark arts shop for example). There is also the spell book in the library (I know, I can sound like a broken record but I think it will have significance).

The Grey Lady might have something important to say or show.....

We'll see in -Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat- 4 DAYS!!!!WOOT, WOOT, WOOT.

Cris

Oops!! Padfoot and I were posting at the same time.

There was mention of the Tiara in book wasn't there?

*scurries off to research a little*

It looks like not because I can't find it on HP Lexicon. Seems like that is just theory. She was good looking and there was a tiara in the RoR so maybe it's hers....

We'll find out soon enough
