There was much excitement as "The Trio" filmed a scene in and around Piccadilly Circus on Monday night (April 20) for the first "Deathly Hallows" movie. From the looks of their attire, it's my guess that the scene is when they flee the burrow after the wedding. Yay!

The Darkness of Harry Potter

Posted By Tom on 01-12-09 @ 10:59 AM - 4 comments - Link
The Herald Sun via News.com from Australia released an article yesterday on Daniel Radcliffe and the love of his character, Harry Potter.

"I wouldn't be there still after eight years if I didn't love what I did and didn't want to invest a lot of myself into what I'm doing,'' Radcliffe says.

"Neither would the rest of the crew who have stood by the films for eight years.''

The article details Radcliffe's interest in the maturity of his evolving character and the Wizarding World around him. As his character grows he understands better the complexity of what is around him and their inherent dark nature. This is what keeps Dan coming back for more and more, the writers explain.

Dan also talks about the upcoming films, their unique style, purists of the Potter Series and his other works.

Harry Potter Gets New Threads

"Harry Potter is going high fashion." says New York Magazine yesterday on their website.

Reports show that Belstaff clothing manufacturers will be featured by Daniel Radcliffe in a future Potter film. As many sites note, it is not known whether or not the clothing will be for the Half-Blood Prince or Deathly Hallows movies.

Belstaff is a well known company for high-performance waterproof jackets and has made great lengths in their respective field. Founded in 1924, Belstaff attire has been featured in many motion pictures including X-Men 3, War of the Worlds and more recently, The Dark Knight.

Opening night of 'Equus' draws celebs, raves

The official opening of Equus on Broadway this weekend attracted a flood of celebrities, from Shia LaBeouf to Glenn Close to Haley Joel Osment, as well as its fair share of rave reviews. MTV News interviewed several of the higher-profile audience members at the show, who variously described Daniel Radcliffe's performance as Alan Strang as "astounding," "wonderful," and a "breakout."

Dan himself also spoke with MTV about the response to the show, saying, "The audience in the U.S. has so far been incredible. There's a couple of laughs we don't get in England, only because the Americans get it so much."

Dan 'a lot more confident' about NY debut

Posted By Matthew on 09-12-08 @ 8:43 PM - 18 comments - Link
In a lengthy interview with the Associated Press about his starring role as Alan Strang in the upcoming Broadway production of Equus, Daniel Radcliffe said that his success in the role in London has boosted his confidence leading up to his Broadway debut. He said:
"That's the thing about doing it the first time around. Everyone was wondering if I could... pull it off. I didn't know whether I could do it (but) I really wanted to... And I am going to get better this time around as well...

"I am a lot more confident about (my voice) being heard now. In London, that was more of a worry. Now there's room for me to do... to play around with the words and put more color into them, sort of a musicality, to try and give every word its individual identity, I suppose.

"Maybe I am more relaxed this time. I think it's just the fact that I have grown up in the year and a half since we (last) did it. The other night I got a line wrong, which, for me, was like a dagger because I don't like doing it."
The full interview is available online. Equus, which is now in previews, opens officially September 25 at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York.

As part of the publicity run for his Broadway debut in Equus, Daniel Radcliffe offered an interview to Details magazine, which is featured as the cover story in their latest issue (warning: some adult themes).

In the interview, he spoke some about his work on the Harry Potter films, saying, "They've been a laugh. They've been great. For the most part, I've been happy every single day. And all the times I've been unhappy, it's never been anything to do with Potter. It's just been the normal, boring teenage [censored]. Insecurities, acne—all the normal stuff."

He also talked about the release of Deathly Hallows last summer: "It was very emotional, actually. In the front of the book, I wrote something Anton Chekhov wrote to the woman he ended up spending the rest of his life with: 'Hello, the last page of my life.' Which I thought was very appropriate."

Dan talks 'Prince' in New York

Posted By Matthew on 08-20-08 @ 11:45 PM - 50 comments - Link
In a New York TimesTalk session tonight, Daniel Radcliffe spoke at length about his preparation for the upcoming Broadway production of Equus and also about the Half-Blood Prince movie. Thanks to SnitchSeeker, we have these nuggets from the interview:

- Dan said that, of the Half-Blood Prince move from November 2008 to July 2009, he was told about it 24 hours before the rest of the world, and begs everyone not to blame him for the move.

- About Half-Blood Prince, Dan says that the parts with Dumbledore and Voldemort are the darkest, while the scenes with Ron are the funniest yet; he also mentions that Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown) was really great to work with.

- Dan talked about a particular incident on the Half-Blood Prince set, where Rupert had his first kiss with Jessie, and Dan was in the background of the scene laughing and trying to get Rupert to break out from character and laugh as well.

- Dan addressed how Emma Watson was hesitant about signing up for the final films, and her reason for doing so was not because she did not want to, but because of her education and the need to evaluate what her options were, especially since the last Harry Potter films would require another three years of their lives. Emma chose not to rush into the decision, but her reason was not because she did not want to.

Dan says he suffers from brain disorder

Posted By Matthew on 08-18-08 @ 7:27 PM - 44 comments - Link
In another entry to the department of Harry Potter headlines that are causing double takes, Daniel Radcliffe told the Daily Mail in an interview this weekend that he suffers from a mild form of a brain disorder called dyspraxia, which is associated with clumsiness. Apparently, the diagnosis is not new, and in fact, Dan has been aware of the problem for some time.

His spokeswoman said, “Yes, Dan Radcliffe does have dyspraxia. This is something he has never hidden. Thankfully, his condition is very mild and at worst manifests itself in an inability to ties his shoe laces and bad handwriting.”

The Mail also quoted a dyspraxia expert, NYU Medical School’s Dr. David Younger, who said, “I’m a big fan of the whole Harry Potter series and I am surprised Daniel Radcliffe suffers from dyspraxia. He clearly suffers from a mild form, but the fact he shows no sign of it at all is a great tribute to his acting skills and makes him a role model for other people with this condition.

“In the majority of children and young people with dyspraxia, we cannot find the cause so the basic treatment is occupational therapy – teaching them to make a plan for their actions and rehearse their movements.”

Dan likens HBP to 'Trainspotting,' Yates speaks

Posted By Matthew on 07-02-08 @ 6:22 PM - 14 comments - Link
In an interview with Empire magazine, Daniel Radcliffe likened several aspects of the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie to the 1996 cult movie Trainspotting, which centers around the Edinburgh drug scene and stars Ewan McGregor. Dan was quick to note the seeming dissonance of this comparison, remarking, "That's two films I never thought would be mentioned in the same breath."

As for the films' similarities, he explained, "There's a fair amount of sexual energy and there are some drug parallels. We have a couple of what David Yates, the director, calls our 'Trainspotting' moments."

Also in the interview, Yates offered some insight into the film's opening, saying, "We're opening with a big attack. It's talked about in the book, but we're going to show it. We'll bring a major London landmark crashing down. It should be quite spectacular

In a new interview with Film Review magazine, Daniel Radcliffe discussed Harry's character in both Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows, saying that in HBP, "Harry is unhappy for a lot of this film, mainly because people keep trying to kill him. And his love life is awful, too. That's what Jo does so well, combining everyday, mundane problems with this incredible other world."

He also did some forward-thinking reflection on the end of the series: "It will be very, very odd to suddenly not be coming back to Harry Potter. And I'll be sad to leave the character behind and not see on a daily basis the friends that I've made."

The full interview will be published in the June issue of Film Review.

Dan debunks Spielberg directing rumors

Posted By Matthew on 02-12-08 @ 9:04 PM - 21 comments - Link
At this week's BAFTA awards ceremony in London, Daniel Radcliffe was asked about the rumor that has been circulating that Steven Spielberg is being considered to direct the seventh and final Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This is what he had to say:
"It's absolute rubbish that Spielberg is directing the final film. It's not true. There's absolutely no foundation in that at all.

"I have no idea how that rumour started or where it came from. It's not true. How's that for a definitive answer?"
It is standard practice in the Harry Potter franchise for the director of the previous film to be offered the chance to helm the next as well, so if David Yates is interested, chances are he will be given that opportunity.

Also at the ceremony, producers David Heyman and David Barron spoke openly about the possibility of splitting Deathly Hallows into two films, saying: "We are still discussing it. The announcement will be made hopefully in the not-too-distant future...It would be brilliant not to have to cut anything."

Dan talks about upcoming film 'Journey'

Posted By Matthew on 01-24-08 @ 10:30 PM - 4 comments - Link
Empire Online has posted a new interview with Daniel Radcliffe about his upcoming film, Journey, in which he will star as Daniel Eldon, "a photographic journalist who was stoned to death by a mob in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1993."

In the interview, Dan cautioned that the filming schedule is not yet set, saying, "There's a lot of stuff flying around about this at the moment. I am absolutely attached to it and it would be amazing to play that part. But people are making assumptions about when it's going to happen and it won't happen – if indeed it does happen – for a while yet."

He also spoke some about his role, mentioning that he has met with Eldon's family in preparation for the film. He said, "They showed me some of his diaries, which the film will be based on mostly. They're incredible....He was someone who died very young, but seemed to live as full a life as much as anyone who lived to be a ripe old age. It'll be incredible to play him."

According to the AP, "The British actor joins Yoko Ono, talk show host Jerry Springer, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other celebrities and members of the public whose spectacles will be linked together in the shape of a railway track — recalling the trains that carried many of the Nazis' victims to concentration camps throughout Europe. An estimated 6 million Jews died.

"The exhibition in Liverpool will open Jan. 21. The port city in northwest England will host Britain's Holocaust Day commemorative service on Jan. 27, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz."

Dan on HBP: 'Funniest of the films so far'

Posted By Ana on 12-11-07 @ 7:14 AM - 43 comments - Link
MTV has released a new interview with the cast of Half-Blood Prince, where the actors and director David Yates talk about the additions and changes to the series. Evanna Lynch mentions being wary of approaching Hero Tiffin, who plays an 11-year old Tom Riddle; David Yates briefly discusses the Hermione-Ron-Lavender love triangle; and Dan Radcliffe says that if the film is pull off right, "it should be the funniest of the films so far."

Katie Leung, who is back to play Cho Chang in the film, gives detail as to what is left with her character, who, of course, broke up with Harry in the fifth film, Order of the Phoenix. She states that, "There's still a slight jealousy there with Ginny to be resolved."

Dan and Bonnie Wright, who play Harry and Ginny, respectively, talk about their characters' burgeoning relationship, as well. Bonnie mentions that, "I suppose our relationship lasts longer than Cho and Harry, but remember — at the end of [Book] Six, Harry and I can't be together," she said. "It'll be funny to do [the make-out scenes], but it's just a film! Hopefully people will just enjoy it and not get too jealous." Dan simply states how odd and funny it will be to kiss Bonnie, having known her since she was ten years old.

First sneak peek into HBP

Warner Bros. UK official Harry Potter website has updated with a sneak peek page, where about four minutes of new footage for Half-Blood Prince can be watched, but only by inserting the Order of the Phoenix DVD (which was released in the UK earlier today), into your computer. However, for anyone who can not buy the DVD yet, someone has posted the preview of the sixth movie on YouTube.

In the video, several new sequences, including a few with Harry and Dumbledore in various places (Dumbledore's office, the cave, etc), can be seen being shot; as well as Harry filming a scene with Arthur Weasley in what looks to be a shed. A behind-the-scenes look explains how art director Stuart Craig will design Tom Riddle's orphanage, and a few new touches to the Gryffindor and Slytherin Quidditch robes can be seen. The video contains a lot of spoiler-filled footage of the new movie, so please heed with caution.

Yates thought Dumbledore being gay was 'cool'

Posted By Ana on 11-12-07 @ 5:35 AM - 18 comments - Link
In an interview with BBC News, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Evanna Lynch, producer David Barron, and director David Yates were asked, yet again, about what they thought of Dumbledore's sexuality. David Yates admitted being privy to that particular bit about the Hogwarts Headmaster in September when JK Rowling came for a set visit early into the production of Half-Blood Prince.

During an early script read-through in the Great Hall set, JK Rowling, according to David Yates, "[Leaned] over to me and said: 'You know Dumbledore's gay don't you, David?' And I thought 'Wow that's pretty cool'. The director also admitted that, "He's a wonderful character, Dumbledore - graceful, wise, powerful, quirky, terrific sense of humour, loves knitting. There's a jumble of things in there and his sexuality is just another thing."

Daniel mentions that JK Rowling is entitled to do whatever she wants with her character; Emma voices her surprise at the media attention of the news; and Evanna muses over how the pairing of Dumbledore and her character, Luna, would never have been because of the fact that he was gay.

Dan gives 'excellent performance' in ITV film

In today's Scotsman, television critic Andrea Mullaney had this to say about Daniel Radcliffe's performance as Jack Kipling in the World War I-era BBC1 film My Boy Jack:
I haven't mentioned so far what will be the biggest draw of My Boy Jack for most - that Daniel Radcliffe plays the son in his first TV role since appearing in the highest grossing movie series of all time. It's tempting to bill it as Harry Potter and the Trenches of Death (especially as Jack Kipling wears little round glasses), but unfair: Radcliffe's involvement may have helped to get the film a primetime slot, but he gives an excellent performance as a young man struggling in his father's shadow until, ironically, being sent to command troops in France. Radcliffe's many young fans may freak out at the sight of him smoking, drinking and wearing a dodgy moustache, but it may also bring them to an understanding of the First World War in a way school lessons never could.

David Yates speaks about Dumbledore's outing

ESMAS were fortunate enough to interview Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, and director David Yates this past weekend during the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix DVD press launch. The Snitch was kind enough to translate it into English, from which it can be seen what David Yates had to say about Dumbledore being outed by JK Rowling last month:

David Yates spoke about the "scandal" that came after Jo's revelations about Dumbledore sexuality.

"I think it's great that the author revealed the sexuality of Dumbledore, who is a very rich and complex character. In the US it was a huge scandal, but not here in Europe."

Daniel mentions that scenes with Ron and Lavender have not taken place yet; Rupert talks about how it was like to work with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuaron; and Emma compares herself to Hermione in that they are both very fond of school.

Dan Radcliffe speaks about Dumbledore's outing

In an interview aired this evening on ITV (it was conducted this past Thursday), Daniel Radcliffe discussed several projects he had worked on with Parkinson, particularly My Boy Jack, which will air on ITV in the UK on November 11th. He was asked about his work in Equus earlier in the year, and of course growing up while making the Harry Potter films. At the very end of the interview Dan was asked about what he thought of Dumbledore being outed by JK Rowling, and admitted that he found it hilarious. He further pressed on that Michael Gambon, who's played Albus Dumbledore in the past three films, and the upcoming sixth, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, had been 'camping it up' lately since the revelation about his character had been announced.

The interview (in two parts), can be watched on YouTube here and here, courtesy of The Snitch.

The Daily Mail has confirmed that actors Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths will reprise their roles in Equus on Broadway in September 2008. The two actors were originally cast in the West End production earlier this year, with numerous rumours and speculation that the play would come to the United States next year. After many months of negotiations between the producers and actors, it has finally been announced.

Rehearsals for Equus are to start in New York around August 2008, and will once again be directed by Thea Sharrock. David Pugh, the play's producer, stated that, "[we're] delighted that New York is now going to witness Richard and Daniel's extraordinary performances."

"Fine, I'll try and teach him again!" Snape snarled at Professor Dumbledore.

"Severus, please, for me, don't take all those old wounds that you gained from James out on Harry. Harry is not James - do not blame him for what happened." Dumbledore spoke quietly, but his blue eyes held a warning. Snape sighed in frustration...
