Deleted Scene #3: The Great Hall and the Sneakoscope
  • The scene opens with a wide shot from high up in the Great Hall and moves slowly lower and forward to Harry, Ron, and Hermione sitting at a table. As it moves closer, you see other students in little groups chatting and playing with things from the shops in Hogsmeade. Dean Thomas is holding a small bag while Neville Longbottom is pulling a tall striped pole out of it.
  • Crabbe and Goyle are standing in an aisle facing a smaller boy. They look like they are going to show the boy a trick with a goblet, but they just pour water on his head. They walk away laughing.
  • Pansy Parkinson is standing with another girl. They are both blowing bubbles.
  • As the shot closes in on Harry, Ron, and Hermione, you see Fred, George, and Ginny Weasley along with some other students playing with a model Quidditch set.

    Dialogue:

Hermione: The post office has 200 owls sitting on color-coded shelves according to how fast you want your letter to be delivered.
Ron: Honeydukes is brilliant, but nothing beats Zonkos joke shop. We didn't have time to go in the shrieking shack. Have you heard it's supposed to be the most...
Harry: Haunted building in Britain. Yeah, I've heard.
Hermione: I mean, it all gets a bit boring after a while. Don't you think, Ron?
Ron: What? No! Boring? Oh yeah, dead depressing, right. Oh, hang on, I almost forgot. I bought you something wicked at Dervish and Banges.

(Ron reaches into a box and then hands something to Harry.)

Ron: It's a pocket Sneakoscope. If someone untrustworthy is around it's meant to light up and spin. I thought it couldn't hurt to have around given...
Harry: Sirius Black is trying to kill me. I'm glad you had a good time, honestly, and thanks for this (looking at the Sneakoscope). You're right, it couldn't hurt.

(Harry then puts a piece of candy in his mouth.)

Ron: Be careful of those they make you...Nevermind.

(Harry starts making funny faces and laughing.)

Deleted Scene #4: Sir Cadogan
  • The scene opens outside facing the castle. The Whomping Willow is off to the right. It suddenly sheds all of its leaves at once.
Dialogue:

Sir Cadogan: What villains are these that trespass on my private land? Who dares challenge Sir Cadogan? Back! You [inaudible]!

(He falls over backwards and the other portraits laugh.)

Then the shot turns to look at the stairs, where the students have gathered, trying to get into Gryffindor Tower.

Seamus Finnigan: He's cracking mad!
Dean Thomas: I don't know what you expected. After what happened to the Fat Lady, none of the other pictures would take the job.
Neville Longbottom: He keeps changing the password. That's twice already this morning! I've taken to keeping a list.
Sir Cadogan: Farewell, comrades. If ever you have need of noble heart and steely sinew, call on Sir Cadogan!
Ron: Yeah, we'll call you if we ever need someone mental.

(The group of students laugh and turn to go back down the stairs.)

Deleted Scene #5: Sirius Black in Gryffindor Tower
  • The scene takes place in the Gryffindor common room.

  • Opens with a close-up of Professor McGonagall as she begins to talk to Ron in front of all Gryffindor students.
Dialogue:

Professor McGonagall: That is preposterous, Weasley! How could Sirius Black have possibly gotten in through the Portrait hole?
Ron: I don't know how he got in - I was a bit busy dodging his knife!
Professor McGonagall: Percy, have you seen Sir Cadogan?
Percy: I - um – I...Yes, he is there, Professor. (He points to another painting hanging in the common room.)
Professor McGonagall: Sir Cadogan, Sir Cadogan!
Sir Cadogan: How can I serve you, ma'am?
Professor McGonagall: Excuse me, is it possible that you may have let a mysterious man into Gryffindor Tower tonight?
Sir Cadogan: I did, good lady. He had the password. He had the whole weeks worth on a little piece of paper.
Professor McGonagall: Which person wrote down the passwords and then proceeded to lose them?

(She then turns to look at Neville.)

Professor McGonagall: Is it always going to be you, Longbottom ?
Neville: I'm afraid so, ma'am.
Professor McGonagall: Well, Sirius Black is gone for tonight, but I think it is safe to say that he will at some future time attempt to return. I know I speak for the entire staff when I say that while we are taking every precaution to ensure your safety, it is incumbent upon yourselves to act responsibly. Understood? Students: Yes, professor.
Professor McGonagall: Very well then. Off you go. And remember, act responsibly!

(The crowd begins to clear out and go back to their dorms. Ron walks over to Hermione and she is holding Crookshanks.)

Ron: And this bloody cat ate my rat!
Hermione: That is a lie!
Ron: It is not and you bloody well know it!

(Ron leaves the room and Hermione, hugging Crookshanks tighter to herself, turns to walk over and sit on the sofa by Harry, who is sitting on a chair staring into the fire.)

Hermione: I can't believe it. (In a whisper)
Harry: I could have killed him. He was right there. Close enough to touch. I could have killed him.
