Goblet of Fire Countdown


Our to-the-second countdown to the release of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is now available for download! The countdown features an all-new picture reel along with a news alert system to keep you updated with the very latest HP news from Veritaserum. The file (which is just under a megabyte) can be downloaded below. Enjoy!

The counter was created by David Jones, with help from Bon Searle and staffer Darren Smith.

Requirements:

1. Windows XP or Windows 2000
2. A fully up-to-date copy of your operating system.  This can be resolved by visiting: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
 - You need to have Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 which can be downloaded here or via the Windows Update page.

Step by step instructions:

1. Click the link above.
2. Wait for download to complete.
3. Extract files from the zip file.
4. Run the extracted Goblet of Fire Counter.msi file to begin installation.
5. You will need to click 'Run' if prompted that the "publisher could not be verified".
6. Click on 'Next' three times unless you want to alter installation settings.
7. Click 'Close,' and you're done!
8. The counter can be loaded via the shortcut on your desktop or the one in your start menu.

Possible errors:

1. Security warning. [example image]
 - Resolution:  Don't worry, just press 'Run'
2. Missing .NET framework version 1.1.4322.  [example image]
 - Download the update from Microsoft at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
3. Unable to install .NET framework version 1.1 from Windows Update
 - Sorry, we have no alternative solution for you.
4. No news links displayed
 - You have either no internet connection or the Veritaserum server is unfortunately unavailable.

Note:

If you wish to remove the counter from your load on Windows startup list, take the shortcut out of the C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ folder.

The counter does have Firefox and Internet Explorer capabilites, along with the option to have more than three news items displayed.  To change the settings, take a look at the options page found by right clicking on the icon in the Taskbar Notification Area.

Currently the counter only counts down to November 18; sorry to all those affected.
