"If we turn our heads and look away and hope that it will all disappear then they will - all of them, an entire generation of people. And we will have only history left to judge us."

Muggle's reactions theories

Mass Hysteria
If the Muggles ever found out what was happening, there would be mass hysteria. Mr. Weasley made a good point in one of the books, that if they did know, they would expect wizards to do everything for them. The Muggles who were told about the Wizarding World have had it explained to them very calmly and very carefully. If it were to appear on the ten o' clock news, however, it would definitely turn into hysteria. People as a whole are afraid of what they don't understand. If they ever found out what was truly going on, it would turn into a witch-hunt. Humans are used to the idea that we are the dominant species, but if there were beings with magic out there, we would no longer be what we consider dominant and would try to change things so that we were. To be blunt, Muggles would flip out. The fabric of society as they understand it would come tumbling down.

Some Muggles will kick the ol' bucket
It seems inevitable that some muggles will die. It happened last time Voldemort rose to power, and the upcoming Wizard War will be too huge not to affect the muggle world and produce casualties on the muggle side. It is also possible that Voldemort will discover that Hermione's parents are muggles and kill them to hurt Harry and one of his best friends.

They won't believe anything
The Muggles won't start suspecting anything magical - muggles always make up a "reasonable or logical answer" to strange happenings.

They'll suspect but never discover
The muggle world is obliviously going to notice more and more odd things happening. At the start of the very first book the muggles noticed odd things happening when Harry defeated Voldemort. I think that there will be more killings in unusual ways (like the Riddle family in the Goblet of Fire). The muggles will try to figure out what is happening. The prime minister already knows about the magical world, as we discovered when Sirius escaped in Prisoner of Azkaban. However, in the end, the muggles will not find out about the magical world.
