Is the Rotfang Conspiracy real?

Monday, April 17th, 2006

Could the “Rotfang Conspiracy” be real, and not a flight of fancy by The Quibbler? On the surface, “rot fang” does seem to relate to “gum disease” as a way to bring down the Ministry of Magic. But the German word “rot” translates as “red.” “Red fang” suggests werewolves or vampires - could Rufus Scrimgeour really be a vampire, as The Quibbler alleges? Note that the name “Scrimgeour” includes “geour,” which is almost the French word, “rouge,” or “red”. A “scrim” is a curtain or backdrop used in the theater, and maybe also a reference to “scrimshaw,” which is carved whale tusks - again, teeth. Lastly, and most importantly, notice that if Amelia Bones, head of Magical Law Enforcement, had not been murdered she might have become Minister of Magic. Instead, Rufus Scrimgeour, head of the Auror Division who reported directly to Amelia Bones, got the position. Does this indicate that Scrimgeour had a vested interest in having Bones out of the way?
